Re: Raspi 2: Switching back to "original" 900 MHz clock spee

You will have to manually set the clock speed value.
Have a look at http://elinux.org/RPiconfig#Overclocking
And how to edit: http://elinux.org/R-Pi_configuration_file

Re: python statements

Ok your request is a bit vague. Do you just want to print a string on the screen and wait for input?

Code: Select all

raw_input("length of stick")

Re: COD4 Modern Warfare

Ok, I've never ran a COD server, but i'm going to assume you need to be able to actually install the game.
AFAIK there is no arm build of COD, therefor you cannot run it on the RPi.

Re: help! new. need advice.

On the right of the homepage (raspberrypi.org) you can find some links to different suppliers. He'll need: - A raspberry pi (I would def go for the B model) - A power supply (1A 5V). These are often sold by the suppliers mentioned above. He might already have one if he owns a tablet or recent androi...

Re: No booting

I tried to use my raspberry pi for the first time on my tv using the composite video cable. I connected everything but it just wouldn't boot. The power light was on but the ACT light only flickered when the SD card wasn't in probably. What should I do? Do you have access to a different (higher spec...

Re: Best programming environment

1. Are you programming for the Pi? If you're just starting out, the apps you'll write will run fine on the Pi. If you'll be compiling large projects, the extra performance from a regular PC would be nice. 2. QT Creator, code::blocks are complete IDE's. My advice would be to start out with a simple e...

Re: camera killed my pi?

Have you tried reflashing the SD card?

Maybe it got corrupted after being short on power due to weak PSU and extra draw from the camera.

Re: location of swap file

To add to what RaTTuS, the low swappiness reduces wear on the SD card greatly. You could move the swap file to a HDD, however swap is so much slower then regular RAM that you'll probably still want to avoid it. Unless you're compiling, I don't think swap is very useful. The performance in the GUI wi...

Did the pi work before you connected the camera?

Re: omxplayer does not listen to keyboard bindings

I assume your c++ app is capturing the keyboard inputs.
If all you need to do is close it you could use pkill omxplayer.

All though a better solution would be to redirect the keyboard input from your app to omxplayer

Re: Best way to learn Python and Rpi???

Decide what you want to create with python and just start.
The core of the language is very easy, especially if you already know those languages.

Oh and I agree with the post above me that Python is at the very least as much at home on linux as on windows

In the command line:

Code: Select all

pkill x
Or easier: if you run raspi-config and select your keyboard layout, you are asked if you want to set ctrl + alt + backspace to kill the desktop

If you want to use a CLI video player why not use omxplayer?

Code: Select all

omxplayer -o hdmi somefile.avi
omxplayer is hardware accelerated.

I did a sudo apt-mark hold on the two packages mentioned above and followed the instructions in the blog post.
Both the new Web browser (epiphany) and midori are functional.

To merge: To combine or unite

You can combine in any arbitrary fashion, but Joe Schmoe's method is obviously strange.
The OP's method produces what most people would expect it to.

Re: Will SSD be supported

This will also depend on the SD card you're comparing it to. I noticed a larger speed difference in things like apt-get update Then with booting, but that was coming from a rather fast SD card. I would advice you to try booting from a cheap USB HDD to see if it improves enough. If it is a (large) st...

Reading should work, writing might nog out of the box.
You would need to add the ntfs-3g package. The previous poster missed a word in the command to enter:
sudo apt-get install ntfs-3g

Go to that directory with cd git clone git://git.gnome.org/gcompris A new folder is created called gcompris. In that folder is a file called README.installation. Re: Will SSD be supported

As you can see this thread is quite old. That said, most info in here is still valid. USB will be the limiting factor in the read/write speed. It is really easy to set the root file system to a usb flash drive / usb hard drive. I've used a USB HDD (regular spinning one) for a while, it has been more...
