As the PiHub is now unavailable, what's a good alternative?

I'm looking for a powered USB hub that can safely power a Raspberry Pi 3B+ and a large USB hard drive.
I was going to buy the PiHub, but it seems to be unavailable currently.
What's a good alternative?
Many thanks

Re: Tutorial for an Alexa Skill to control the PI

Hi - I got this to work, but I have a few questions? If you could make a tutorial for a more advanced version, it would be really useful! What's the best way to make it work relatively permanently? If I leave it all up and running overnight, it stops working the next morning (Alexa says skill not fo...

Re: Tutorial for an Alexa Skill to control the PI

This was a very helpful tutorial, and worked for me - thank you.
I'm hoping to use raspberry pi strogonanoff
https://github.com/dmcg/raspberry-strogonanoff

to control some lights from Alexa.. This looks like it could help! I'll let you know if I get stuck...

Music serving over the internet

I have a Raspberry Pi 2. I have a collection of legally owned music that I'd like to be able to listen to over the internet, on my iPhone (not just within my WiFi network at home). I'm trying to work out what the best way of doing this would be. Ideally, I'd like the experience to match Spotify as c...

Can't stream from mopidy - need to install mpg123audiodec ?

I've installed mopidy on a clean build of Rasbian Jessie. I've managed to run it, and get MPoD to connect to it over my local WiFI. I've configured mopidy to enable the mpd server (hostname = 0.0.0.0 port =6600), and as an HTTP server (hostname = 0.0.0.0 port=6680). I can see MPoD connecting to it, ...

Motion only storing one image

I've managed to get Motion installed. I'm running it as a daemon, and it is generating output from the webcam at 320x240, and I can view the camera in a web-browser on port 8081, which is generating images every second or so, with no problems. My problem is that Motion is only saving a single .jpg f...

Re: Raspberry Pi - Sunrise/Sunset Timer for Christmas Light

Thanks all - I didn't realise the sunwait executable had been created. When I saw the errors, I assumed it had crashed out, but sure enough, it's there and it works!

Re: Raspberry Pi - Sunrise/Sunset Timer for Christmas Light

Hi. I'm attempting to install Sunwait , as scruss mentioned - it sounds like the perfect complement to my raspberry-strogonanoff project. I'm pretty new to Linux, and I'm attempting to install it. I've downloaded the .tar.gz file from here, and expanded it into a folder (containing 7 files) on my ma...

Installing Beautiful Soup 4 in Python?

Hi,

I tried using apt-get to install BeautifulSoup4 in Python. I used sudo, I tried logging in as root, but it kept saying that it couldn't read the package.. I did an apt-get update, and my network connection was good, but no luck... Any ideas?

Re: Setup Logmein Hamachi for SSH access behind firewalls, e

Hmm.. I can't install hamachi. I get the following error: logmein-hamachi depends on lsb-core (>= 3.0); however: Package lsb-core is not installed. So I googled around a bit, and tried installing: sudo apt-get install lsb-core sudo apt-get -f install lsb-core but it didn't work : E: Unmet dependenci...

Re: How will this differ from the OLPC project?

<t>Another thing would be to learn from OLPCs mistakes: was it a mis-step to describe it as the "$100 laptop" - is Raspberry Pi risking bad press if the final price for the device comes in at over £15? Who are the target market - developing countries or school kids in developed countries? Is the ide...

Re: Display your work at Over The Air?

<r>The "Over The Air" conference is coming up on 30th September at Bletchley Park. I think a workshop explaining how Raspberry Pi will work, and demoing the Alpha boards would be fascinating! You should suggest it as workshop here:<br/> <br/> <URL url="http://overtheair.org/blog/201.....tion-form/">...

Re: How will this differ from the OLPC project?

<t>Raspberry Pi sounds like a great project! I think a blog post outlining the differences between what you are planning, and the OLPC approach would make for really interesting reading. OLPC tried to build a completely new GUI and "interface paradigm" for their laptops, whereas what you are proposi...
