Re: Auto mounting stopped working

my fstab is empty apart from the default entries needed to mount /proc, /boot and the rout filesystem. But automounting doesn't work via fstab, does it? It used to go automatically via udisks and I don't think that needs an fstab entry.

Re: This is model B board?

thanks, but following this thread http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 26&t=22199 it seems that I simply have the 256mb version so it's gonna be pretty hard to squeeze 5120mb out of that :D

Re: Confusion over 256 or 512mb ram

I just checked my invoice from RS and it just has the part number 7568308. Currently on their site it has 512mb in the specs but of course I have no way of knowing whether it already did when I ordered. Probably not then.

Re: Confusion over 256 or 512mb ram

It depends on what the order says - if it says 512 and you got 256, then RS are minus any legs to stand on. If It says 256, and you got 256, that's what you ordered. So check the order. I'll check and let you know. At least, if I can find it.. I'm quite aggressive in cleaning up my mail so the orde...

Re: Ethernet noise interferance with a USB Sound card

imo there are two possibilities: - when ethernet consumes power, this is reflected as a variation of the voltage on the USB line and your soundcard has poor voltage regulation inside so the variation of the input voltage makes it into the analog circuitry. This seems the most likely to me. Can be ve...

Re: Running Raspberry Pi Headless

Another way to get access to the root fs, or even chroot to it, from a windows machine: - install VirtualBox and an image of your linux distro of choice - plug SD card into pc - run wmic diskdrive list on the command prompt and note which of the \\.PHYSICALDRIVEX entries is the SD card - still on th...

Re: power supply question

Both will do fine.. I doubt there is any 5V charger delivering exactly 5V, they normally will give you more instead to make up for losses in cabling etc and after all the USB spec is 4.75 - 5.25 V. Also the board has a fuse and a voltage clamper as protection against too much voltage (well, within a...

Re: Getting started creating a video vending machine

You could connect the Arduino to the Pi (for example http://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/1505/how-to-attach-an-arduino). I assume this is just for playing around and not for actual use? Cause you should know that vending machines and the likes run either some microprocessor or else a dedi...

Re: Raspberry Pi- the saviour of Linux?

yes projects like these are great to make people aware of linux. I mean, I could now give my mom a credit card sized low power thingie and have her use it for mail and browsing without too much hassle. Which is awesome. It's also a great target platform for fun software/hardware (though I wouldn't w...

or use an ethernet cable instead of wireless if you can. Less hassle (well, apart from the extra cable) and faster and more reliable.

if you use something like this: http://www.icidu.com/en/hard-disk-casin ... apter.html you don't need to get a hub or worry about Y-cables as the thing comes with it's own power supply,

Auto mounting stopped working

A couple of days, I assume after doing apt-get upgrade and rpi-update, auto mounting usb drives does not work anymore. This is annoying in particular because once in a while there's an I/O error on usb drives causing them to be reconnected, so all programs depending on the drive stop working sine it...

For most boards this is true. But not for all.

Re: Many GROSS design failures on the Pi -USB failures

though I feel the OP's post sounds a bit too angry, he does imo make a couple of good points (I'm a halftime hardware engineer myself, if that counts). As said in another post, the board I got was totally unusable due to the fuse being way out of spec. Even after fixing that, I have problems like pl...

What's with the fuse?

Got a Model B a couple of days ago and the resistance of the fuse F3 is about 4Ohm. Which is huge, for a fuse rating 1A. Under normal load with ethernet connected there is already a drop of about 800mV over the fuse. Good news is: the board still operates with only 4V at TP1. Bad news: connecting pe...
