Re: Setting PICO_SDK_PATH in your CMakeLists.txt (hint: dont)

I second the idea of defining a standard location like "/opt/raspberrypi/pico-sdk". Ah, but do that and others will insist it should be in /usr/local Some would say either would be better than '~/pico/pico-sdk'. And what about Windows? Not renowned for having either of those folders.... R...

Re: CM4 TWO Ethernet Port

I'm asking around to see if there is such a thing as a dual ethernet PCIe chip. Apparently there is, but I don't know any part numbers. Can also get more ports. However, I suspect that even if you find such a device, getting hold of them in quantity is unlikely given the current chip shortages, some...

CMake is just a build system, nothing to do with the programming side really. As long as you write decent code, the build system is(mostly) irrelevant. We recommend using VSCode as the IDE, that's what I use. Sometimes on a Pi itself, usually on a Linux box. I tend to run builds from the command lin...

Thanks, did found that. To start with, how many users do have "alice" as user? Its not mentioned that "alice" is an example. Second, the idea was to erase user "pi", but it can't. Seems too be needed in some parts. Third, its way too short. It doesn't show what happens...

In answer to your subject title, no, we don't think so.

As for installation, we have very comprehensive instructions for the three major platforms (Linux, Mac and Windows). Are you having problems with one of them?

So amazon firetv stick is powerful than rpi4? Or poor software compatibility? Also is there any android os with hardware acceleration?? The Fire stick has a faster data path from the wireless to the HW, which can be highly optimised, so you don't need a huge amount of processing power. On the Pi, y...

I think its is easy to measure a real MCU company by checking how the company had understood the IP they had invested money into. In the todays world, hardware is just one pice. The other bigger portion of IP is software. If you implement a ARM Cortex M core IP into a product and you did not unders...

It would be very interesting to know what proportion of uController software engineers use Linux vs Windows vs Mac, and what the trend is towards. I moved from Windows to Linux (although still use Windows on my work laptop, but work mainly in Linux in a VM) about 10-15years ago, although the VC4 deb...

Re: Issue with Latest Hardware Revision 1.4 for 4B boards

I am having issues with the 4B 1.4 in that LibreElec 9.2 just doesn't boot on it. I've tried copying start.elf and fixup.dat from the github zip file, but now the green LED blinks 4 times slowly and then 4 times rapidly; and the Pi doesn't boot. https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configurati...

Re: gpu_mem=16 in /boot/config.txt causes bus-errors, panics etc.

If the problem goes away with 32, just use that. I doubt we will spend any time trying to find out the problem and its likely unfixable anyway, as it seems changes to the firmware need a bit more memory, and changes care there for a reason.

Re: Pi 4 cannot support a 4094x2400@30Hz display well

That is a bit more than 4k, its possible that we don't support a resolution that high. I'll check. I wonder if enabled 4kp60 in config.txt will help, might be an insufficiently high clock.

edit: Had a quick look at the firmware, there is no 4096x2400 mode in there. Might work under KMS.

That gives you the size of the data portion of the file, but PNG has a header, which may be a set numbers of bytes, you will need to look that up and add it to the total.

Video cards with the Raspberry Pi? The nvidia-driver software package in the Debian repository does have support for ARMHF computers. I'm not sure what hardware would be supported by the nvidia-driver software with ARM computers. Same with the AMD graphics drivers, the xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu sof...

Hmm, that's an odd one. Got a few questions;

1. Are they behaving in all other respects?
2. Have you made any updates or similar on them recently?
3. Does running a standard Raspberry Pi OS image on a new SD card work OK?

Re: gpu_mem=16 in /boot/config.txt causes bus-errors, panics etc.

I expect a firmware change somewhere has used up a tiny bit more memory and pushed it over the edge, although it does depend on what features of the firmware you are using. What things are you getting the Pi to do that might involve firmware memory usage (camera, multiple screens, codec usage etc).

The very latest KMS driver (the ARM side system rather than using the firmware) should support HDMI hotplugging. To try it out, update config.txt. Find the line dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d and amend it to dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d This is still code in beta, so make sure everything you need to work is still ...

I find this odd. The amount of CMake you need to know is about 5 lines worth (and we are working to get those 5 lines better documented). I really is not lot of effort, but clearly there is some work need to explain it. I'm not complaining -- I'm merely reporting my observations. The CMake system w...

Beyond being rather anti Microsoft, I an very unenthused about single vendor lock in.
Which we try to avoid, and having an MS OS available, along with Office, increases the number of vendors. It not like we (Or anyone else) would stop providing Linux if Windows became available!
