Re: Why is my rPi crashing?

A common theme in this thread is a concern that using the sd card as a file system may be sub-optimal. I find this to be a bit curious. Do the people who use an rPi as a desktop run on a USB drive? For this use case my rPi is just idle until I hit "save" or add a file from an ownCloud cli...

Yes, its in beta, you can try it out from wherever its distributed from. Search the forum for more information.

No release date as yet, as we are still working out some kinks.

I'm not aware of any press release or blog post. The Foundation obviously owns the Trading arm, but like you it's a bit unclear to me how it all works.

Good spot. Surprised it's not already been mentioned.

Re: install / downlaod "wiring" - need current source code link

You know there has never been an official Raspberry Pi wiringPi package? Yet there still is outdated package in raspbian buster repo, see https://github.com/RPi-Distro/repo/issues/214 Well, unless it was already removed. Stuff in repo is not necessarily "official". After all, there are ab...

Re: Object colour detecting and finding matching colour from catalog

Not sure you need the LDR. You have a camera that is perfectly suitable for reading the light levels. One major thing to consider is calibration. You should have some "test cards" with known colors on them to calibrate the camera/sensor against. I used to work in a photo lab and we had to...

Re: install / downlaod "wiring" - need current source code link

as to µCs, I'll stay with my Arduino-driven ESP32 because of real std::thread MT and IoT WiFi/Webserver plus ESP WiFi remote clients and tons of device and tool libs, but for big HDMI displays, sound, wiringPi, GUI forms+widgets, Webbrowser, and one day perhaps AI I'll stay with my Pi2 with Stretch...

AFAIK, microHDMI is exactly the same as full size HDMI, but with a smaller connector. So I would expect all the required lines to be in there.

Re: install / downlaod "wiring" - need current source code link

Among my friends, about a dozen work with Arduino/Wiring and almost half a dozen once worked with Rpi 2/3 too, but all dropped it since wiringPi was not maintained anymore and migrated to more powerful Arduino boards (M4, ESP8266, ESP32) - the current Rpi GPIO libs are simply too weird, incompatibl...

Re: install / downlaod "wiring" - need current source code link

As to wiringPi: it is no longer maintained, neither by it's Author (G. Henderson) nor by anyone else, in the future it probably won't work correctly for RPi4 anymore ... or for whatever comes after that not true, https://github.com/WiringPi/WiringPi , works on Pi4 and CM4 not true, that is no offic...

Re: install / downlaod "wiring" - need current source code link

I don't think you give hobbyists and beginners enough credit. All of this stuff is pretty learnable, just takes a bit of effort. Among my friends, about a dozen work with Arduino/Wiring and almost half a dozen once worked with Rpi 2/3 too, but all dropped it since wiringPi was not maintained anymor...

Re: install / downlaod "wiring" - need current source code link

@AnneRanch There are few reasonable C++ examples using "wiring " I have already explained to you in detail the difference between "Wiring" (C++ framework, for Arduino) and "wiringPi" (ANSI C libs, for RPi) in another of your threads, and as stated, they have almost not...

I'd go with the CM4, more likely to be able to find stock as well. CM3's are very very thin on the ground at the moment.

Re: No more Rpi laptops?

Is the idea of a Raspberry pi based laptop dead? The pi-top was an interesting attempt, but I noticed they seem to have given up after just two attempts. I think I heard some kid got a burn when touching their proprietary cooling apparatus. The Waveshare 15.6" laptop which lacked a trackpad an...

Re: pcmanfm replace

To solve the problem, we need to know why pcmanfm is unstable, because that should not be the case. Bad SD card? Bad power?

Does the same thing happen if you revert to 32bit mode (I presume you are using Raspberry Pi OS and have set use_64bit or whatever it is called)?

That won't help - we are currently tracking down an issue with YouTube playback. Appears to be race condition bug, that may have been there for a long time, but recent Chrome updates have made it happen much more often.

Like what? This is a change made by Debian, upstream of Raspberry Pi. I'm not sure what can be done, except to educate people. I think it will go away with the release of bullseye.
