Re: What's the simple and safe way to do a "shutdown" button

Our school has a large screen in the reception area which has a rolling display of nice photos. It's currently driven by a laptop. Getting inspiration from this thread http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=17797 I'm going to try replacing this with a "Poor Man's Photo Kiosk". Set u...

I will use scrot to get images, works well on the pi.
What type of images should I use, .jpeg or .pnp and what
are the advantages of each?

I just use a power strip with an on/off switch, plug the pi power supply and the monitor in the strip. Just shut them off with the switch. jozien17 Without doing a shutdown on the RPi? my raspberry pi at our February meeting using our clubs projector which has a HDMI input.

Re: cannot execute binary file in firefox or seamonkey

For seamonkey you would have to download the source code near the bottom of http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/ and compile it yourself, since the compiled Linux versions are not compiled for the Pi cpu. I'll try that because I miss not having a simple HTML editor that the old Netscape had. ...
