One server + multiple client serial connection interactions

Sorry in advance that this has been answered already; I just can't find it amongst all the other related questions. I have a server a bit like this: server.bind() server.listen() while True: # Do something else for a while them... client = server.accept() while True: # send and received message unti...

SOLVED: Mirror / Flip on Python picamera video output

I'm using the RPi0W + RPi camera to take a video. The RPi0W case is horizontal (physically) so the result needs turning 90o in the GPU. This is possible according to the spec - search for "Mirror and flip" in https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/camera/README.md. However, I can't find ...

Re: SOLVED: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

Is anyone having issue with wifi on startup? I have WAP working at boot time with 3B+ & stretch. I was having problems originally, hence this post. From swapping from udhcpd to dnsmasq and all's fine. Read from the start of the post for details. For me, the problem was introduced a year a go changi...

Re: SOLVED: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

OK, now all working. To set up an isolated AP: Follow the instructions here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/access-point.md up to but not including "ADD ROUTING AND MASQUERADE" section. Comment out any "NETWORK={" entries in /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf r...

Re: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

Seems the problem with backing out is that even though dnsmasq.config has "ENABLED=0", on reboot dnsmasq starts, and so the IP address is set to the AP value (192.168.42.1), rather than obtained from my home hub (192.168.1.???). Worst cause, I can dnsmasq to the Rpi blacklist temporarily, but this i...

Re: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

I stripped out contents of wpa_supplicant.conf, and the AP is working, thanks. Now I need to find a way to temporarily back-out the AP to access the internet.

Re: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

OK, so, by manually adding the "network={" for the WAP ssid and password in wpa_supplicant.conf, and commenting out the equivalent for the internet network, the clients can connect to the isolated WAP. Next task is to work out how to undo the WAP when needing to do apt-get upgrades. @SurferTim: Do t...

Re: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

Thx, sadly, with defaults for dnsmasq set to "ENABLED=0" and hostapd set to "DAEMON_CONF=""" and wpa_supplicant only including my home internet hub, after reboot, while hostapd not running, dnsmasq is running, and IP address (ifconfig) is that of the local (i.e. dnsmasq) not assigned by home hub (BT...

Re: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

To clarify, I set "ENABLED=0" in /etc/default/dnsmasq and reboot, yet post-boot, dnsmasq is still running and the WiFi IP address (from ifconfig) still shows the WAP address not assigned by DNS by my home internet server. I've got something behaving very oddly!

Re: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

Did you set up everything in raspi-config? The wifi country setting is important. Yes, I set the country - needed to do the apt-get update/upgrade. Edit: If you have trouble getting the hostapd service to start, insert this into /etc/rc.local just before "exit 0" service hostapd stop sleep 5 servic...

Re: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

OK, so that suggests an invisible typo error in my WAP setup, or there is some part of routing / masquerade is required. I'll dig further tomorrow.

Thanks.

Re: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

OK, ta. Note that I do not do the "ADD ROUTING AND MASQUERADE" section. This is because this is a 1:1 client / server connection requiring zero routing or masquarade as far as I could work out. Further tweeking / testing this morning has still failed. Both another RPi and my Windows machine couldn't...

Re: Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully?

Thanks both. I've had WAP working from RPi A & B 1 - 3 working; the problem started in Mar 2017 with the change in how network software was used (can't remember what). At that point, udhcpd stopped working and so I stayed with the Feb 2017 Jessie and udhcpd. I doubt it's a B3+ problem really, it's j...

Anyone done 3 B+ Stretch Wireless Access Point (WAP) successfully? [solved]

Hi, Symptoms: WiFi network name is not visible to other RPis. Assuming that my WAP config isn't actually set up correctly yet. Tried setting up WAP on my 3B+ Stretch using these instructions: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/access-point.md My setup included the dnsma...

Re: SOLVED: Interacting between 5 processors problem

It's one of those things where symptoms and cause were about of far from each other as possible. If both the GPS and Sweep processes were connected to the Autopilot process, for some reason, the Motion process flushing the shared-memory FIFO stream for the Video process hard-looped, never being empt...

Re: Interacting between 5 processors problem

P.S. I should have said that my use of shared memory streams is the same reason you use UDP; I just chose the shared memory stream as a speculative faster option than UDP as it didn't need to go through the IP stack - all very much guesswork though!

Re: Interacting between 5 processors problem

Thanks for the idea. In my case, a single poll() is used by autopilot to track GPS and Sweep. Similarly, the motion process uses a single poll() to track video and autopilot. Both GPS and Sweep sensors are watched on a single poll() call by the autopilot process, and processed. The autopilot and the...

Re: Interacting between 5 processors problem

I'll have a go next week after the B'day party in the Cotswolds. My hope was that it might ring a faint bell by someone; I'm fairly sure it's not in the details, but in the interaction of 5 processes over 4 CPUs over shared memory streams. I know, my wishful thinking may be too extreme!

Re: Interacting between 5 processors problem

By processors, I meant CPU's - i.e. there's 4 CPUs to handle my 5 processes so I'd have thought it would just work (t.m.) Code is 4k lines, but if you can face it, it's on github here: https://github.com/PiStuffing/Quadcopter/blob/master/Quadcopter.py The main process is the Quadcopter class, the re...

Re: Lidar Lite V3 - Raspberry Pi - Python

I'm still using the setting previously listed in the post as I don't think Garmin has made any attempt to fix their I2C bug which the RPi exposed when its own I2C was upgraded back in March. This is what works for me: Jessie Lite kernel 4.4.50-v7+ from end February 2017 (I think that's named 2017-03...
