I am currently working as an Electrical Engineer in Lafayette mostly doing embedded design with PIC microcontrollers but do all aspects of product development from circuit design and analysis to PCB layout to writing firmware. You need to be logged on as the root user in order to make changes to config.txt.

Head first Python is a great book to learn Python 3. Do as the book suggests and actually write the code out for the examples. That is how you'll learn the most, by actually writing programs. Good Luck!

You should have only one connection from your hub to the Pi and that would be the USB connector. You will need to have a separate power supply for both the Pi and the hub.
