Re: Pi, XBMC, HDMI audio - and Samsung monitor

Argh... Went through the monitor's settings. The HDMI port I was using has a default of DVI input mode. DVI doesn't support audio IIRC. Switch it to AV mode and I have audio again...

Re: Pi, XBMC, HDMI audio - and Samsung monitor

I ought to check Xbian too, thank you for the reminder. I'll have a look at the CEC settings; I hadn't thought to look at that as it's just a monitor... Given there's a fair few installs out there working properly, I'm left with the probable outcomes of a) there's some incompatibility between the cu...

Pi, XBMC, HDMI audio - and Samsung monitor

On the offchance... Does anyone have an up-to-date version of XBMC running on a Pi with audio over HDMI working connected to a Samsung monitor or TV? This used to work a couple of months ago; I've upgraded recently and can no longer persuade it to function. The monitor (with audio) works with an MHL...

Re: Why RS?

I don't think any search conducted in August would have demonstrated how badly things would be handled by RS. To suggest that Richard has only himself to blame is disingenuous at best. While it is not an isolated occurrence, it has no less credence than e.g. my situation (and is markedly similar); t...

Well, you can either use the one local to you or go through the Northants council one which bounces you to Citizens' Advice first - http://www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/en/councilservices/Community/trading/pages/advice-and-help-for-consumers.aspx CA will read the complaint and subsequently bounce it t...

And even a monkey would lose his temper under these circumstances and begin to protest as loudly as he can! Ook? Re: RMA Problems with RS

Thanks Paul - that is also underway, but it shouldn't be needed. I had to spend far too long on the phone to a call centre, explaining and re-explaining the situation; now I'm going to be lumbered with a bunch of paperwork. In all honesty, I'm still tempted to bin the chargeback route and fill in th...

Re: RMA Problems with RS

Unfortunately, it does need people to actively complain to TS to get any action - the more people who lodge formal complaints (it's really easy, there are online forms which don't take all that long), the more likely they are to bring prosecutions. (BTW - for those who are left feeling I'm flogging ...

@ps_bond thank you for the information regarding how long you have been waiting. Thanks for your queries. Unfortunately we are currently a week behind with responding to emails sent to the email address raspberrypi@rswww.com . Really? That doesn't tally with my sending 2 emails to Josie Callan in response to hers; the first on the 13th October, the second on the 16th. Or are yo...

Re: RS - BAD! - People jumping the queue? - Cancellation fai

Lob is right - there is a contract - which is why you see the RS logo on the Raspberry Pi website. We cannot change that. Big red text would quite simply lay the Foundation open to some pretty nasty legal action. As it is we have to let people make their own decisions. Contracts cut both ways - and...

It really shouldn't be an issue as to which is harder to ignore - this is not even as advanced as basic customer service; they're in clear breach of law in my case and doubtless others. They're a big enough organisation to cope and they've been steadily moving away from only dealing with corporation...

Re: RS refund timescale

They are legally obliged to refund within 30 days regardless - if it took them a month & a half then they were, as usual, in breach; I'd suggest that it might be worth logging that with Trading Standards too. The more complaints they receive, the more weight it lends to a prosecution. The complaint ...

Re: 1080i AVC (h264) Tv recordings no longer work - Black Sc

I still maintain that standard (and MPEG2) was written to make hw/fw engineers' lives easier... Finding startcodes is a doddle if you've got hw that does it. Finding them in sw on a non-byte-aligned stream is a considerable PITA.

Re: 1080i AVC (h264) Tv recordings no longer work - Black Sc

Yes, these types of files (containing NAL units delimited by start codes) were consuming 10-20% of ARM's CPU. So when they are working again, that CPU will be freed up. Was that down to doing the Exp-Golomb decode on the ARM by any chance? Can't imagine the TS encapsulation itself would give any pr...

I did think to swap my USB cable over after posting too - having been bitten by a cable for an Arduino that was sub-par, seemed wise. Same diff.
