GitHub is often a source of inspiration. I've not tried it myself, but this code looks relevant to your needs.

Re: Anyone make a Thermal camera

There is a clever adaption of an IR thermometer for low cost thermal imaging here
I'm thinking this Arduino+PC project might adapt well to the raspberry pi.

If the trouble is at the picture edge, you could specify a region of interest to zoom in.

Re: .profile not being read on login

My Pi has the workaround identified by jojopi, and X desktop terminals do pick up the PATH environment variable from ~/.profile. But X desktop terminals do not pick up my GOPATH environment variable which is also defined in ~/.profile. I would like each desktop terminal to be aware of GOPATH upon op...

Thank you billw. Other follow-on recording funnies I've seen are the thumb showing motion region frames with some motion data, and a post capture time cut short.

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

If one video recording stops because the time limit is exceeded, the following recording overlapps the previous, and initially replays smoothly, but after about 8 seconds there are lost frames causing the replay to jump ahead by leaps of about 10 seconds. Is this because the pi is busy boxing the fi...

There's an upgrade: root no longer needs to be in the video group for PWM servo use. Thank you billw. Following the upgrade my scripts from version 2 now run in version 3.2 (whereas they would not run in version 3.1, even with all having execute permission). Note: the servo buttons disappeared afte...

My same Kingston 16GB class 10 card by from MyMemory has similar behaviour. It will accept the Jessie lite image, but then throws errors when trying t...

Servo accuracy can vary ... and pikrellcam seems to cope well as is. I'd rather it be left without trims; so keeping the quantised scale. ... there was no good way to associate multiple tilt positions with corresponding pan positions ... For me it's not the association that's important, more a conf...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

Whereas I was experiencing occasional positional glitches with servoblaster, the pikrellcam PWM servo control is completely glitch free. When I setup my servos I used their mid travel position for straight ahead. I was therefore somewhat surprised that the mid points of the pikrellcam servo scales d...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

Is root a member of the video group? It occurs to me that may be needed because to access the PWM pins, pikrellcam becomes root to open /dev/mem and then drops back to user pi. But if root is not in the video group, then that privilege can be lost by doing that. Thanks for your thoughts. I did this...

@ivannaz Thank you again for your helpful comments in closing the loop. The proportional feedback is spot on. It makes the bar come to a halt really smooth. I still get some wander of the bar, but the movement is within 1ms, so overall I'm happy. You seem to have a good feel for what's needed. I did...

Thanks ivannaz, it's good to have help. I look forward to seeing how you close the loop. Remember, its error signal is delayed by about 5 frames, and PiCamera has to be asked to provide 'raw' PTS. I pulled picamera from Git-Hub as this version gives user access to and control of time stamps. I hope ...

Re: IR strobe for piNoir in sync with raspivid

The possibility of achieving sync by comparing presentation and system time stamps is still looking promising. With GPIO 17 as input wired to GPIO 18 as hardware PWM pulsing at 30 Hz, and using a rising edge callback to retrieve system time stamps from the camera, the variation from an average over ...
