how heavy is raspbian ?

https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ Raspbian comes pre-installed with plenty of software for education, programming and general use. It has Python, Scratch, Sonic Pi, Java and more. Apparently a-kindle-loaded-with-e-books-is-heavier-than-an-empty-one ... so how heavy is raspbian ?

Re: All Your Code Are Belong To Us 2.0

I just had a look at one of my repos and https://github.com/DougieLawson/backlight_dimmer/network exists and is populated with exactly what I expected to see. So the assertion that Has the github 'network graph' feature been removed? isn't true for that repo. There may be a switch that can disable ...

Re: All Your Code Are Belong To Us 2.0

The new topic you have raised appears to be about some feature of that service that you think might have changed. It seems reasonable to me that it should be a new topic in its own right. But as a generic question concerning some aspect of a third-party service, the Raspberry Pi forums might not be...

That you're on the Pi forum, not the one for github... I would say that's even off topic for the 'off topic' section. so still dont see why that would upset any one :| considering searching the pi blog has close to 300 mentions or whatever of that hub https://www.raspberrypi.org/search/github - '28...

Re: 4G dongle connected (Raspberry Pi-2) but no internet

Many mobile network providers block incoming access. see also Many if not most broadband 3G/4G providers use a Carrier Grade NAT setup: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier-grade_NAT This means you get a local IP from behind the providers router(s). 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x If this is the case then...

Re: Is it OK to have USB sticks plugged for a long rime?

If your intent was more about learning to use RAID, and you're not storing any irreplaceable data, then "USB sticks" are fine. Just scrolled past this: post and video nbd-graphical-viewer-raid-5-edition about an application visualizing what’s happening on a RAID 5 disk set 8-) and was reminded of t...

The more one moves away from 'one way of doing things' the more likely things will go wrong
Like one way to store/read a file resource ?
eg : wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS#Alternate_data_streams_(ADS)
Alternate data streams allow more than one data stream to be associated with a filename

Now on Windows you have "PowerShell" (you see the word "shell" appearing on Windows too). You will find bash very powerful indeed, and more than capable of doing the things you want. for comparison ss64 has a Command line reference for win-cmd and lin-sh https://ss64.com/nt/ https://ss64.com/bash/ ...

there's always going to be a gap between what people want to do and how much effort or money they're willing to put in. IMHO there is a good analogy between the trials racing video game play > eg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9q7b2viq7lQ 'The Many Fails Of Trials 2' and "development" aka finding...
