Re: NTP Problem

A heads up to what will be on newer arch images system-networkd replaces netcfg system-timesyncd replaces ntpd As it's integrated I would expect it to work better, how to try yourself (make sure your upto date with pacman -Syu) I think you mean netctl, not netcfg. Please don't make systemd-networkd...

Re: NTP Problem

Temporary connectivity problems can be an issue for ntpdate (the command which sets time and exits), but not for ntpd (the daemon).
ntpd should start working soon once network (or DNS resolution) is available, I just tested recently.

Re: Can't login as user

If you log in as root, as implied, then "su - rondo" should not ask for a password. The most likely thing is that rondo's password is not what you think. Reset it with "passwd rondo" as root. Otherwise, what does "passwd -S rondo" say? No no, this is not what I do of course. I execute "su - rondo" ...

Can't login as user

I have a login problem. Logging in as root works everywhere. However, logging in as a user (tty, ssh) fails. With tty: login[318]: FAILED LOGIN 1 FROM tty1 FOR rondo, Authentication failure With ssh: sshd[225]: Failed password for rondo from 192.168.1.2 port 57678 ssh2 But the system accepts my pass...

Re: omxplayer bad audio quality

Are you able to build from source? No. "make ffmpeg" throws this error: arm-unknown-linux-gnueabi-gcc is unable to create an executable file. C compiler test failed. If you think configure made a mistake, make sure you are using the latest version from Git. If the latest version fails, report the p...

ntpd

I replaced pre-installed openntp with ntpd and it now takes a few minutes after boot to set time.
Can it be configured to set the time faster?

omxplayer: sound is distorted

I installed omxplayer-git with "makepkg -As --asroot" and then with "pacman -U". Arch is fully updated. Sound is been output via HDMI. After the playback begins, the sound is too low tone and has gaps, but you can recognize the words. After a few minutes, you no longer recognize words, there are onl...

Re: Is this a SD-Card issue?

As for my SD card issue, I tried a Kingston 32G card and have no more issues with the card I/O and OS crashes. Both of my Transcend cards which failed (16G and 32G) were reported as good on the wiki page. They only fail in Pi, not in other devices. As for kevent 2, I altered sysctl.conf a little (ad...

Re: Is this a SD-Card issue?

I measured TP1 - TP2 voltage and it was a bit off (around 4,68 V) with HDMI, Ethernet and a hub with keyboard tranmitter plugged an dd in operation. I changed the supply and now it's like this: 1. Everything unplugged or just HDMI plugged in: 4,93V 2. Ethernet plugged in and dd in operation: 4,83 V ...

Re: Is this a SD-Card issue?

Yes, I already checked those.
I noticed Raspbian has different kernel arguments, I'll compare them to Arch's with more attention later.
In Arch I have default arguments from the recent 2013 image, only added loglevel=5 and consoleblank=0 to those.

Re: Is this a SD-Card issue?

So I tried copying from NFS to /dev/null with no problems, but these scrolling backtraces suddenly happen (not immediately, after a few minutes) if I copy from /dev/zero into a big file or copy /dev/mmcblk0 to /dev/null.

Re: Is this a SD-Card issue?

I still experience infinite kernel panics when copying big files over NFS to SD card. And I have that option in cmdline.txt already set. Have tried with: 1. 2 different boards (256M and 512M) 2. 2 SD cards (Transcend 16G class 4 and 32G class 10) 3. With and without hub plugged in (non-powered) 4. 2...
