Re: how good is the magpi

In general I like the content. It has come a long way since the first piece. Now that it is picking up steam and there are more people working with the Pi, it would be nice to see issues focus on particular areas. For instance, The Networking Issue and then maybe The Camera Issue etc... My 5 rules f...

Re: Any thoughts on using cron to keep a webcam alive?

nothing real special. since frame drops were pretty random ( sometimes it would stay connected for 9 straight hours and other times for less than 45 minutes ) i set it to run every 30 minutes. so far so good. i tried doing it by having cron call a shell script, but after completely failing (not a cr...

Re: Photo Frame as a Display

A neat project would be to use a photo frame and put everything into an original or MacPlus case. I would do it but i'm way too lazy. But if someone else did it... i would probably give it a try. (have a few MacPluses lying around) but then again... i'm lazy.

two words
different agendas

suppliers want to make money
you can't fault them for that

they aren't going to lower the price of products just because one company is doing something different.

we are lucky that one company is doing something different... and quite well btw.

image capture under projects

i think "image capture" needs it's own category under projects. now there a 3 places that would pertain to the subject. moving pictures and still pictures are basically brother and sister so it would fall into this category. Graphics, Sound and Multimedia is way too obscure. You are either trying to...

Any thoughts on using cron to keep a webcam alive?

Been playing with mjpg-stream for a few days. still have a pesky problem and tend to lose a frame grab from time to time and it's almost like clockwork, give or take an hour here or there. may play around with cron and schedule a restart at intervals. anyone tried this? guess i'll give it a try.

i've currently switched to mjpg-streamer and it keeps the connection for longer periods. still not 24/7 by any means. i'm interested to see what will happen when the camera module is released. the kids want to stream our rat-cam for the world to see.

I think your camera has timed out. Would have to see your logs to make sure. It seems to be a common problem recently. Still looking for an answer myself. Motion, btw, can be used to "just stream" also. http://www.lavrsen.dk/foswiki/bin/view/Motion/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#How_do_I_disable_or_enable...

Re: Webcam - motion not working - but video ok on mplayer

Having the same problems here also. Motion seems to time out after 3 or 4 minutes. Have a Logitech C270 plugged into a powered hub. Camera works continuously with other software. Be nice to hear of a resolve to this issue.
