Re: Access UV4L bird-box from anywhere?

Hi fruitoftheloom Thanks, I must be a bit thick but I cannot see what you mean from the VNC site. A search for middleman brings up nothing. I have looked at the 'Setting up your Pi ' section and must have missed something . I can already render the Pi screen for any of my PI's on my network but as I...

Access UV4L bird-box from anywhere?

I have a pi running UV4L and am able to stream a view of the box on any web browser on my network using 192.168.... etc. This works fine. I want to be able to see the video stream from outside my network. I have access to the network with VNC but the only way I can seem to do it is to log into anoth...

Re: Easy way to enter temperature into running pi

Yes, that's a possibility. I would really like a way of doing it without having to go to a terminal, perhaps a dial setting input? Must look around for something like that.

Thanks for your input, Brian

Easy way to enter temperature into running pi

My pi will be running a temperature control program, amongst other things, I am at a loss as to how to change the target temperature without changing the code. That is I would like to have some form of external input mechanism I am sure there is a relatively easy way to do it but cannot find it. I d...

Yes, I did look at it but don't know Github very well so not sure if it was the same. I am currently playing with Dropbox on the pi so will give this one a try.

Thanks.

I am using this one:

is it the same or better?

Cheers.

Re: How do I pass this to an os.system command

Thanks but my actual problem is with passing file names and directories to an os.system command for uploading to Dropbox.

File names built on the fly from my birdbox camera.

Re: How do I pass this to an os.system command

Thanks, I will try that. The paths issue is not a problem as the file string I pass in the original code included an absolute path reference.

How do I pass this to an os.system command

Hi, I want to pass a text variable (?) to an os.system command, for example: import os import time from time import gmtime, strftime from datetime import datetime myfile=strftime("%y%j~%a%d%b%Y_%H-%M-%S.txt",gmtime()) os.system("cp myfile todayfile.txt") This gives me the error: ...

How to change API Key in dropbox installation?

I loaded DroBox onto my pi and now I want to change the API key as the one I used is wrong. If I run the dropbox_uploader.sh as I did when I first set it up it does not go into the "first time" routine to allow you to enter the API code. How do I do this? Is there a file I can change or de...

Re: Remote task activation using????

OK, thanks for the dweet info but I find it a little confusing and possibly overkill for what I want? I want the pi to listen for something from me and then run a python program. I don't need dweet to reply as the python program will do that. Perhaps dweet will do the interrupt but I have not figure...

Remote task activation using????

I have a pi running at home on my WiFi network. What I want to do is to be able to send a command to it from elsewhere, for instance ask it to take a video and post it back to me. I know how to get the data back to me using email. How can I ask it to do the job? Can I get it to listen for an email o...

Using UV4L to save a video

I have a camera setup using UV4L and it works fine and I am able to view the camera image at any time. What I would like to do now is the remotely ask for a video to be saved on the local Pi SD card. I could do it by stopping UV4L, saving a video using a python program and then re-starting UV4L. Is ...

Re: Bird Box Camera - want to view via web browser

Thanks JIM food for thought.

I use Motion on two security cameras and have a clean-up routine to stop the SD getting full.

I didn't want to do this for the bird box as there will be A LOT of activity and not all it it interesting.

I have tried Motion but this seems to record all the time and soon fills up t...

Changing camera setting in UV4L

I am using UV4L for a future bird box camera and wanty to change camera setting, for instance the AWB settings. How can I do this as UV4L takes over the camera. Is there a config file for instance that I can use for general camera settings?

Thanks.

I am having two problems with this setup when compared to yours. First is that the imge is very red whereas yours looks q...

I aam a new user of UV4L:

so far it's working out well for on-line viewing. I don't save videos but I think you can do it.

Re: Bird Box Camera - want to view via web browser

Hi Jim, that is pretty much what I am trying to do. What camera do you use? I find the normal pi cameras (including I/R) difficult to set up to get a good sharp view of the whole of the bottom of the box.

Cheers, Brian
