Keep Pi alive

Hello All I deployed a raspberry pi at a remote location to gather data. I was wondering how I would keep it alive after a power failure or shutdown. Right now, for some unexplained reasons, it shutdowns once in a while and I have to ask someone to reboot it. How would I keep it alive automatically?...

Re: Help with RTC

I have the exact RTC (from ebay) - so I too am interested in knowing if the 5V are ok for the PI.

Re: Removal of composite video out

I do not know the reason the original poster had in mind, but one reason I would like to remove the composite video out is to make it fit in my homemade board. The port stick out a bit and I run my pi as a headless, data-logger and server.

Setting the time via a GSM Modem

Hello All, I am planning to use the Pi as a data logger in a remote location. Is is possible to set the system time by interrogating a GSM modem at boot time to get the time? Since I need the modem anyway to push data to my server from the remote site, using it to set the time as well would be nice....

Level Conversion when using USB-to-Serial

Hell All, I have a USB to serial adapter (pl2303) that I plan to use to interface to optically isolated serial port that draws power from the RPI. Can anyone comment if the voltage conversion is necessary? On my scope it looks like the output voltage (on the USB serial port) is -8 to 8 volts. So I d...

Re: Photovoltaic/solar systems monitoring

anwmalos, Yes, the simple probing should not be a problem. I do have one question though. The outback mate communication manual says that the serial port on the mate is optically isolated from the system, and the power to the port is supplied by driving the DTR high and the RTS low. The simplest sol...

Re: Photovoltaic/solar systems monitoring

I am very interested in this project. I am currently trying to interface a Outback power Mate (via RS232) to the RPI. I want to log the data to the SD card every 5 seconds.

My equipment:
Outback Power Mate
Outback Power GVFX3024E inverter
Raspberry Pi.
