Re: VGA-HDMI monitor issue

The PiHut - supplied adapter for RPi3, & the supplied cable adapter for the RPi4 works well, they are what I use with 2 different VGA input monitors - one is XGA, the other is SXGA.

Re: Newbie here, I need help. My rpi 4 cant detect my wired keyboard and mouse.

If using the official power supply unit, you should be fine, but if you are using a 'charger' you might not be getting the full power from the sockets, or your keyboard & mouse together require more than can be supplied..

Re: Rearranging partitions on SD Card

You can alter the size of the root partition within /usr/lib/raspi-config/init_resize.sh, either before installing (via another system), or before initial rebooting. The line you need to alter is root_dev_size=$(.....) - I believe they are in 4KB blocks.

I got even more space freed with sudo tune2fs -m 0 /dev/sdd
That is what I use on a small personal system with a separate /home, but I keep it to 1% for / just in case. ;)

Re: Why is my hard drive full?

Linux reserves 5% for root to be able to keep a disk in good working order if needed, so I'd reduce that to regain a bit more space.

Code: Select all

sudo tune2fs -m 2 /dev/sdd
(The above will release 3% of that 5%)

(Another way of running out of space is by using up inodes with lots of small files.)

Re: Phone&Bluetooth keyboard & Pi 4 Case? Or small monitor/ non touchscreen display for Pi with HDMI?

For a small monitor, Eyoyo work well for me, 8" SVGA / 11.6" WXGA / 12" XGA sizes. Also, as above pre used, even if they only have VGA, you can get adapters, I use one on my RPi3, & a cable adapter on my RPi4/400. Eyoyo examples https://www.eyoyousa.com/eyoyo-s801h-8-inch-hdmi-mon...

We all like different things in our distros of choice, if it suits you, use it.

I have found an ideal distro for me - Devuan. ;)

Re: pi400 problem

Using chmod +x will allow its execution, but you will have to set it up to work in the GUI.
Usually there will be an 'add program to the menu' feature buried in the menu system somewhere, use that to set it up to run in a terminal.

I think he's probably using a built in mic on a laptop, seldom do they give good quality sound. No idea what he may have been talking about as the sound was so poor I gave up listening very quickly - but I guess there will be no new boards for some time to come, as some one has intimated, owing to c...

Re: Power Supply for Raspberry 4 bad design for Australia

We've been 'suffering' having cables come out of the top of the PSU for the RPi3, whilst our monitor cables come out the bottom, (as is usual), for the whole run, it's a mess, & could easily have been made the other way, as it is an 'add on' to a multi use wall wart with two pins, but we've put ...

Its a shame Linux is dropping support for IDE, I'm sure there are a fair number of old computers being used on Linux.
Lots of 32bit systems have IDE drives, & are still in regular use, especially in poorer Countries.

Re: Working SD card won't boot using some USB card readers

Perhaps Windows & your Linux have built in drivers in the kernel that the RPi kernels don't have - no driver to read the card = no booting from it.

Re: Thoughts on external SMR HDD with Pi

Using USB3 is definitely quicker than USB2, my file transfer times are cut to about 1/3rd - processor speed is of next to no consequence when transferring files, so it does come down to USB speed - likely quicker overall using the RPi USB3. Another thing that I have noticed is that if you write to a...

It could be location/distance from router, or it may be getting shielded in some way - mine works fine with both 5G & 2.4G.

Anyone have suggestions? Give up and use my RPi 400 motherboard as a funny-shaped RPi 4?
I've been thinking of doing exactly that - I like having all the cables coming out from just one side; yes, maybe just remove the motherboard (& heat sink?), & use it as a 'regular' RPi. :D

Re: Pi 400 performance for a photographer Cards Backup Device ?

You can save some USB power by using a mini wifi keyboard/touchpad instead of a regular keyboard & mouse, which is conveniently a lot smaller & lighter - I would add it to a RPi4B with official power supply. One something like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zedo-Wireless-Keyboard-Handheld-R...

Any Linux computer should be able to see the files on your card, if plugged in to it & mounted.

Just read in another post, RPi5 details almost sorted out - wonder how long the process will be from details to hardware....I'm guessing somewhere in about 2 years - hope I can still afford one...

(No, I'm not even going to guess what it will be...... :D )
