FreeBSD and config.txt

Hello all. I've just tried to install a FreeBSD snapshot, FreeBSD-11.0-CURRENT-arm-armv6-RPI-B-20140701-r268111.img to be precise and I've notice that the overscan parameters on config.txt aren't used. Other parameters are read correctly (for instance sdtv_mode or sdtv_disable_colourburst. Is this n...

Re: Wrong colors on TV Headend (Composite Video Out)

Well it's red and blue swapped but green is okay. Do you only get this with framebuffer applications (e.g. X and standard linux console apps) or do you also get it with OpenGLES or openmax (e.g. hello_video, hello_triangle, penguinsopuzzle, omxplayer). Do you get it with (in config.txt) framebuffer...

Re: Wrong colors on TV Headend (Composite Video Out)

It's impossible ! Red and blue are swapped. Cyan (no red) and yellow (no blue) are swapped. Green (no red or blue) and magenta (red and blue but no green) are ok. I've manage to get the same results with a fresh raspbian image, just downloaded from this site, the culprit triggering the effect is th...

Re: What was your first computer?

The first computer I ever used was my uncle's Commodore PET (maybe was the 8032, but I'm not sure) connected with a daisy wheel typewriter. My first computer was a sinclair QL, initially used with a big colour TV, then used with a green phosphor monitor, then added a Star NL-10 printer. Next, I upgr...

Re: will the RPI run windows 3.0(1990)?

I think the best solution is to find a vintage IBM PC compatible at a garage sale or watch on ebay. To run Windows 3.0 you should emulate a full IBM PC system like qemu or dosbox does, someone anyway succesfully ran Windows 95 undeq qemu in the Pi, so this is feasible. Unfortunately what one finds f...

Re: Polyfuse F3 / RasPi power circuitry flawed

No, a charger is a fundamentally different device than a power supply! Its a bit hard to explain what the difference is between a charger and a power supply if you are unfamiliar with electronics. The main difference is that any charging circuitry in for example a GSM phone doesn't mind what kind o...

However, charging nearly 40eur seems excessive ($52). Current exchange rate should be about 26euro's. I suggest locating another supplier. For instance RS components? Yes, they're slow, but for half the price one could wait. Goods total 27.40€ Tax 5.48€ Standard Delivery (Despatch expected within 3...

Re: SoftwareSerial like lib for raspberry pi

While possible, even though a Pi is much much faster than an ATmega, it's going to be tricky due to the nature of Linux - multi-tasking, pre-emptive, etc. You need fairly accurate timing to clock the serial date out correctly and consistently. I think you'll be far better off looking for USB serial...

More from composite out

Hello all, It's possible to modify the GPU code to have an extra option for the composite output, making possible to have a progressive mode output? I was thinking to add a parameter, called sdtv_progressive_mode, that with value 0 makes the normal interlaced mode as is working now. With the value 1...

Re: HDMI to VGA Cable - does it work

There are a lot of reviews saying that it doesn't work, but none are Pi specific. It appears to be for X Boxes and such like, giving an HDMI output and needing to connect to a VGA monitor. I suppose it's a cable used for a very specific purpose and for very specific systems, for instance when a lap...

I'm opening a new topic here, because it's a more general topic. Actually, spoke to Gordon last night, and he is of the opinion that the vast majority of people will now see no problems, and he expects to be able to improve the USB again to reduce the impact on users by a significant factor, which s...

Re: Monitor output problems.

Try putting the following line in config.txt (but this should be a default): sdtv_aspect=1 That will force it to treat the composite display as 4:3. Also, I would recommend only using a max of 800x600 over composite - anything higher will be too blurry. add also sdtv_mode=2 and into RiscOS select 6...

Therefore I wonder: Is there a case planned (either by Gert, the Foundation or third parties) for the Gertboard? Of course it would have to have lots of holes and slots, possibly with strain...
