Re: I can not start motion as daemon

Jumping in to confirm all of the above and to add what I've done in addition to what's been mentioned. I'm running Arch on a Raspberry Pi 3. I modified the motion.service file to run as "root" and not "motion". I also modified the service file to start using a script that always works when I start i...

Re: What day was 1st RPI sold?

Hah! It would be Feb. 29th, wouldn't it? That way the day can only be celebrated every 4th year!! :-)

Thanks, everyone.

(Ironically, I started my first business on Feb. 29th in 1984 so I have a particular fondness for that day already!)

What day was 1st RPI sold?

I'd like to make note of it on a timeline.

From what I can gather and remember, it was February, 2012.

But which day?

Thanks.

Re: DC++ Client for RPi?

Chiming in to say how much I've been enjoying ncdc on my headless RPI. Very lightweight. Has all the functionality I need. The ncurses interface has an "alt -n" tabbing feature which lets you tab to all the different "functions/pages" of a dc client: The userlist, the queue, the results of a search,...

Re: Awesome, inexpensive 7" monitor!

Professor Harris, Could you please comment on how you set this screen up, modifications to the config.txt file, etc? I picked up one of these and the quality of the display is, in a word, terrible. Quite blurry. So far, I, too, would put this device in the category of you get what you pay for unless...

Re: Easy, Affordable Screen Solutions

The monitor will only draw the current it needs, so as long as the voltage (and polarity of the plug) is correct it will be fine. Thank you for the feedback. I was afraid I might throw too much juice at the display and damage it. I hooked it up and it works! There is some flicker on the display pro...

Re: Easy, Affordable Screen Solutions

OK. So I sprang for one of the Insignia NS-D7PDVD screens. Now I'm trying to find a power supply for it. These screens are meant to be used in cars. Power supply requirements are 9-12V 1.5A. I found an AC Adapter that has the right sized tip and outputs 9.5 V 3.3A. Is there someone here with more kn...

Re: 7" to 12" Screen

Michael, Thanks for the reply. I will try to find an RCA to mini-AV adapter. That disappoints me, though, because I had to hook my Pi up to a projector one day when I didn't have access to my flat screen tv. I used the yellow RCA video out and the resolution was low and awful. I hope it will be bett...

Re: 7" to 12" Screen

Michael Meissner,

What kind of cable did you use to connect to the Insignia screen? I'm having problems finding one that goes from HDMI to the a/v input on the side of the screen.

Thanks.

What kind of inputs does it have? Normal HDMI or mini HDMI?

Re: Webcam - motion not working - but video ok on mplayer

relnext, Here's what one guy did to get your webcam working with motion: I have it running on an Arch install (soft float) with a Logitech C270 webcam. However, it did take a bit of fiddling with quite a bit of trawling the web (mostly archlinux wiki). The steps below worked for me but I haven't ful...

Re: Webcam - motion not working - but video ok on mplayer

Just chiming in with a "me, too" on this problem. Just got my RPi up and running. Using Arch. Installed motion. Webcam loads and runs fine for a minute or 2. Then it appears it freezes. Which is to say, it shows an image but it doesn't show any change in the video frame. Then it conks out with these...
