Re: Garmin ECOMAP connected to RPi 4

Kent, I apologize in not responding for so long. I've used the G-Mouse by Stratux. The VK-162 still available. Here it is on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EROIUEW/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_EVBRXX0G2QDD31KFW0A9 No worries as to the TX/RX as this has a long cord and USB and is plug/play with Raspbe...

Re: Receiving NMEA sentences from Garmin Echomap

So sorry for timely responding. I wanted to get more complete nformation before posting hardware status of everything. I successfully connected the Garmin Echomap 63cv to the Raspberry Pi and was able to retrieve NMEA 0183 sentences and record them on Florida canals. In answer to your question, I fo...

Receiving NMEA sentences from Garmin Echomap

Background: The original Raspberry Pi in 2012 has been used successfully by Biologists in the past connecting a Garmin Echomap GPS fishfinder to record NMEA 0183 sentences. Using the shared data wires from the Garmin (RX/TX) and a serial to usb cable bathymetry has been performed on lakes. I've conn...

Re: Garmin ECOMAP connected to RPi 4

jayben I appreciate your input. I'm going to try and make this simple. I had connected a USB GPS dongle to my Raspberry Pi and receive GPS data with no problems. GPSD worked. I then connected a simple TTL to Serial Converter as you recommended to my Garmin TX/RX/GND wires. My simple converter has a ...

Re: Garmin ECOMAP connected to RPi 4

The RS232-TTL level-converter you provided I researched. I believe its MAX3232 and I found a connector that'll do the conversion. https://electropeak.com/rs232-ttl (Please confirm this is the type of hardware connectivity you are suggesting) In answer to the questions in your post: Yes, NMEA 0183 se...

Re: Garmin ECOMAP connected to RPi 4

Thank you for responding. I did purchase a RS-232 to TTL Converter as you suggested. It uses the FTDI chip on the plug to do the conversion. Recommended for Raspberry Pi and is 3.3V TTL-232R compatible. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015ME2WKO/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_Nr20FbY2MJDVY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 ...

Garmin ECOMAP connected to RPi 4

I want to connect a Garmin UHD 63cv with my RPi using the shared data cable 2-wires (RX/TX) that the device provides. My goal is to use GPSD and write NMEA 0183 sentences to my RPi. I can connect the RX/TX wires from the Garmin directly to the GPIO serial pins and not have to fuss with serial-to-usb...
