Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

@billw, Just for entertainment, I'm fooling around with the html. Just an FYI, I noticed that "motion_enable" appears in pikrellcam.c as one of the "commands[]", as well as in config.c as one of the "config[]" entries. It looks like command_process() is unable to get to the "config[]" entry because...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

@billw - Is pikrellcam using mostly GPU or CPU for the motiondetection and video conversion? Perhaps I am setting the memory split to high (256mb on Pi0) I remember a block diagram of the program that I saw but I cannot find it anymore, though I think a lot of processing went on in the GPU? I am al...

Re: Combining PIR and normal motion detection?

You could run pikrellcam without enabling motion detect videos because it always writes motion detects to a FIFO regardless if it is enabled to record videos. There is an example script example-motion-detects-fifo that reads this motion detect fifo to get all motion detects and you could combine you...

I was messing with the xfce terminal preferences and I think I messed it up because when I open terminal all my old settings are preserved but I can't change any settings and the color icons are black. Can I delete the file and it will go back to normal and if not, how can I fix it? Thanks You can ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

For a normal Raspbian installation (Lite or Desktop / .img or NOOBS), I don't think it can get any simpler than: ./usb-boot reboot and you're running on the selected USB device. I could have said: rpi-clone -l sda reboot But it might be useful for some to know that there are other ways that can als...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

I had not paid much attention to how all this works, but I think at least on my system that the entire day's videos are simply moved to the archive folder around midnight. I was doing those experiments right around midnight, so the process of archiving may have just happened. At least on my system,...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

Does having the "check_*_diskfree" lines in that order in the .conf file, mean that it first checks the current day's media and deletes that, before even checking the much larger archive/* media folders? EDIT: Aha! I changed one line in the .conf file to "check_media_diskfree off" and manually reco...

Re: Pi4 Cooling

It seems a lot of people are using fans with their Pi4, but for me having it with no fan was a high priority for silent 24/7 desktop running. A case with its top off and a better heat sink really works fine. It just needs to be mounted in a way that is safer than exposed loosely sitting on a desk. O...

I just installed "xmag" to look at an icon , and the rubber band leaves a trail behind.
Same trails with xzoom and xfce4-screenshooter.

Appears to be a problem with XOR drawing.

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

I've added a PIR sensor to one of my camera traps and it works well to create a 10 second video by sending "record on 5 5" to FIFO, however I'd like to send a start record command on motion activity and a stop when activity has ended, where can I find the commands I can send to FIFO to do this? Thanks, Chris
There's an upgrade ready. An external app can now read the motion_detects_FIFO to get all motion detects independent of
video recordings. See the help page and scripts-dist/example-motion-detects-fifo.

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

There is a lot of interaction with various parts of the program when motion starts a video, so I don't think I want to overload that with a mode where videos are suppressed. But there could be a separate and independent interface for writing motion events to a fifo. Motion videos functions would re...
