Re: Screen size

Start up !PackMan, and have it update, then upgrade. Reboot, that'll make it save settings. Also, the icon in the icon bar for changing video modes (the display manager) is for temporary changes. You want to run !Configure, then Screen. I'd pick the Generic monitor, then pick the display mode that m...

Here's the full guide that should have come up (I converted it to ROOL's Wiki a while back):

Re: RISCOS SD card compatibility list

Grr... lost a post to a NetSurf crash... (seems it didn't like me dragging and dropping a text file into this field). Anyway, my understanding is that critical Filecore structures are stored at the end of the volume, which would obviously be the last thing written by a sync or a proper umount. Those...

Re: For noobs (like me) -how to get an app to autorun on boo

Personally, I prefer using Organizer for my clock. (I don't actually use it as an organizer, but it lets me do a bit more sane layout for the time and date, and it looks better. Downside is, must NEVER touch time settings in it (unless you're in UK time), because (at least v1.x, which shipped on the...

Re: Zap on the Raspberry nPi

I haven't tried it, and it doesn't explicitly say it'll run on the RPi (but I can't see why it wouldn't, if it runs on OMAP), but here's a 32-bit build of Zap: http://www.tankstage.co.uk/Software/

Re: Has anyone bought Nut Pi?

At the time rumour had it that MS delayed the publication of W95 to add their version, although they probably plagiarised Apple's already plagiarised version, neither are a good as the original. The OS X Dock derives from the NeXTStep Dock (NeXT was bought by Apple, but it was very much not Apple (...

Re: Monitor output problems.

Try putting the following line in config.txt (but this should be a default):

sdtv_aspect=1

That will force it to treat the composite display as 4:3.

Also, I would recommend only using a max of 800x600 over composite - anything higher will be too blurry.

Re: How are duplicate, conflicting config.txt entries handle

What about cases such as, for instance, a user having hdmi_safe enabled, and then having some entries that conflict? I assume that it parses hdmi_safe as actually being all of the settings that it represents, and then those settings presented afterwards win? Or, for instance, someone setting gpu_fre...

Re: java

RISC OS Pi ships with NetSurf, which currently has no JavaScript support.

If you do need JavaScript, Firefox 2.0 is available from !PackMan, but beware that performance is dreadful (although it's at least usable on the Pi), and it's a quite old version of Firefox.

How are duplicate, conflicting config.txt entries handled?

Is there a defined rule for how duplicate, conflicting config.txt entries are handled by the firmware? First item found? Last item found? Fail boot? And does that rule change depending on what the entry is? I'm planning on developing a front-end to manipulate config.txt settings (for RISC OS), and w...

Re: HID for wireless KB/Mouse?

I'm surprised that the RiscOS people don't think that lack of wi-fi support and lack of bluetooth keyboard support isn't a dealbreaker? I know those things didn't exist in 1989, but even so... :o To be fair, there's a rather small group of people doing development (without those people, RISC OS wou...

Re: New to RISC OS? Read this!

That's indicating a problem with the SD card of some sort (or how it was written). Basically, the FAT partition (it's more complicated than that, though) is working, and the RPi is booting the RISC OS ROM, but RISC OS can't access the SDFS Filecore "partition" for some reason (which has all of the s...
