Re: sudo apt update -- removing microsoft packages

The microsoftgate has the potential for a nice popcorn item ... There is another option, which I chose, reduce the use of Raspberry PiOS to a bare minimum and use it only on computer doing vscode. Lot's of alternatives out there and as long as you are not in urgent need for the few tweaks to the har...

Re: SDR and CPU usage

The secret is the level of encoding you do on the SDR data. There is easy load data, which can be processed on low power Pi, but very quickly when browsing the frequency spectrum you get into heavy computing. Most applications are/ have to be setup multi-purpose, so estimate power requirements from ...

Framework question - half-duplex voice audio over web

We are into building a project for our remote home in need for a half-duplex communication (monaural) over IP connection. Following use case: a web page with a) an audio stream b) a button to start recording a voice message c) a button (or the same button dual used) to stop recording the message, sw...

Re: sudo apt update and a ton of error messages

Isn't this a "Doctor, it hurts when I do this" thing? You broke your system by turning off IPv4, and now it doesn't work. We all know that IPv4 is on the brink to extinction. The site this Pi is operating has a modern IPv6-only connectivity and this provider already chose to require IPv4 ...

Seems to be the case that the MS repos do not support IPv6.

This MS repo saga gets funnier every day.
Yes, MS repos appear to be not capable of IPv6 and no, I don't think this *** is funny and I did move this machine to another distro, project is complicated enough, no need for friendly fire.

How could we know, since you haven't posted any of those error messages?
I try to avoid posting unqualified error logs.

Got further and fear this thread will soon be deleted as others as unwanted
- cause appears to be the ill-fated vscode repository.

sensible power connection

I do have my desktop Pi4 mounted hanging on the back of the display, so the USB-C cable for power is sticking out on the side. Apparently this is not the best configuration, because even small touching the display disconnects the power. Is the USB-C connection really so bad to be used going sideways?

sudo apt update and a ton of error messages

I tried to sudo apt update one of my RPi4 and was presented by a bunch of error messages. It appears there is some garbage in the current system trying to pull things from some destination only reachable by IPv4, but this is on an IPv6-only machine. What happened to the system? Once I figure out wha...

SIP VoIP plus switching capability?

This may be a crazy idea, but maybe somebody more skilled can help out. This is the project idea sketched: install a VoIP SIP client on a Raspberry Pi 4, configure it to take any call incoming with autoanswer, route the speaker and mic audio from a USB sound card to the VoIP connection. Now comes th...

Simple USB Audio In/Out compatible with RPi?

I own a basic communication device which is delivering monaural sound on a small 3.5mm plug and meant for a 8 Ohm speaker and is accepting an input from a monaural microphone on 2.5mm plug specified only with 'greater 100 kOhm'. I would like to connect it to a Raspberry Pi 4 and thought of a cheap U...

RoIP and RaspberryPi

Does anybody here have experience with RoIP applications? We do plan to change a PTT'ed radio station into something we can operate by LAN connection, allowing kind of remote tower operations from inside a hangar. Maybe a SDR driven receiver can do the trick to start?

Re: No WiFi on first startup issue

Just to keep you updated and in case somebody runs into the same issue: One of the last updates obviously broke the auto-connect to any WiFi. I had to check raspi-config for other reasons and found there neither WiFi country nor SSID and passphrase - even though I was using this for a long time at t...

Re: Shipping to Pakistan

Got a chat with a friend who happens to be in international logistics and he said shipping a Raspberry Pi board to a student should be no problem, but - it has to be the pure board and neither display nor keyboard/mouse in the same package, so no 'sets' allowed. If keyboard and mouse are meant to sh...

Re: Non standard baud rate on RPi4

I would advice against using non-standard Baud rates, they tend to never get as reliable. Clocking and syncing serial connections on standard Baud rates does have the advantage to be matched to the internal crystals or other clock giving devices and the internal registers pushpulling data. Non-stand...

Did you check for the export regulations? It might be forbidden to ship computer equipment to Pakistan. For countries like that I tend to call the embassy first, to check wether any trade restrictions or sanctions are in place.

Looks like myNode puts some sort of secure mechanism for the wallet storage on the card, which makes totally sense. We know of similar techniques from the past and struggles with i.e. U3 domains on storage units is legends ... So, just re-imaging won't work and you have to low level clear the whole ...

Re: Cost and carbon offset of using a Pi vs a traditional desktop computer?

The problem is that, like many systems, a computer has to be chosen to cope with peak demand. Not entirely, only true if you intend to let the peak performance sit there do nothing when not used. I switched to Raspberry Pi as my daily driver and am using computing power on demand in the cloud. If y...

Re: Cost and carbon offset of using a Pi vs a traditional desktop computer?

Carbon Footprint 'calculations' are crystal ball estimates and in the very end based on faith and belief, not math. You can do the same stupid calculations as the religious climate cult. Major contribution will most probably be the difference in power consumption, so take: Pi on an estimated 5W, run...

Either use raspi-config to set the wlan country or put a wpa_supplicant.conf file in /boot containing the "country" code and your wifi credentials then reboot.
I already tried that standard procedure. It does no longer work, not even on a fresh image. Maybe the Pi is dead.
