I tried all the randr stuff to no avail. Dave's solution dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d in sysconfig.txt worked for me. a few added notes. you have to have root permission to save file. I started my Geany my chosen editor via alt-F2 and typed sudo geany and pressed enter. Just put your editor name in place ...
