Re: DNS issue between Samba DCs

This in /etc/nsswitch.conf , coupled with your '.local' TLD is probably your problem: hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns First '/etc/hosts' is checked, then Avahi, the latter returns nothing, so the dns search fails, try it like this: hosts: files dns I will try this right now. Thank ...

Re: DNS issue between Samba DCs

OK, There is only one problem with your first DC and it will affect your entire domain. You are using the '.local' TLD, you should not do this, that TLD is reserved for mnds. Your second DC is where your problems lie, it should be a mirror image of the first, only the short hostname and ipaddress s...

Re: DNS issue between Samba DCs

Very true about the DC and another DC. I'm guilty of using wrong terms in trying to paint a complete picture. When I edit my /etc/resolv.conf to show: search <YOUR_DNS_DOMAIN> nameserver <THIS_DC'S_IP_ADDRESS> I get no resolution at all. I had to add the other DC into resolv.conf to access this foru...

DNS issue between Samba DCs

Hortimech, you've had all the answers I've been looking for... I can't thank you enough. But I will also throw out another one... I have two DCs sambadc - primary sambadc2 - intended to be a backup sambadc: - can ping localhost and get a reply from 127.0.0.1 - can ping sambadc2 and get a reply from ...

Change wall paper every 20 minutes?

Is there a way to automate changing the desktop wallpaper? In Windows, I can set it for as fast as every minute. Is there an equivalent to this in Raspberry Pi OS?

Thanks!

How to configure NTP on a Samba DC?

I have a Pi 4B running Ubuntu Mate and it's my primary DC. It has NTP running and is currently the sole time server in the forest. I then set up a second 4B as a backup DC and that seems to be working (kinit resolves user names), but I can't figure out how to properly set up NTP on the new DC. I tri...

Re: Samba AD server interface issue

"Can I suggest you use this repo for Samba: http://apt.van-belle.nl/" I got out of my depth pretty fast trying to follow this. I tried "sudo add-apt-repository http://apt.van-belle.nl/" and that returned: aptsources.distro.NoDistroTemplateException: Error: could not find a distri...

Re: Can't mount Synology NAS to Pi 4

Ok, so this is one I can actually answer. I use my Synology NAS with my rPi4 daily. 1) Use SMB shares 2) Create a user on the NAS with the appropriate permissions to access the share 3) On the Pi you need to create a mount point under the /mnt folder. Example: $ sudo mkdir /mnt/fileserver 4) Create ...

Re: Samba AD server interface issue

Yes it's a new domain. I'm just wanting local internal authentication so I didn't think I needed a real FQDN.

Why would that make the interface not respond?

As an aside, I set the Pi to wait for network at boot and that cleared the problem. I just dont understand what's happening.

Does Timeshift work with Raspberry Pi?

I was able to use Timeshift to backup my Pi, but when I restored, the Pi wouldn't boot. Just wondered if I am doing something wrong? I read somewhere that it doesn't work with the rPi. Thoughts?

Samba AD server interface issue

I had originally set up Mint XFCE on a PC as a Samba AD server. That box has gone to the great PC resting place, and I am now trying to get Samba running on a Raspberry Pi. Hardware: RPi 4 8Gb OS: 32-bit Raspberry Pi OS When I boot up and try to test the server using "sudo systemctl status samb...

Timeshift restore problems

I’m new to Timeshift and this is the first time I’m trying to use my backup. My backup included everything I believe. I don’t remember now what I had set. When I went to restore, I loaded a clean install of RasPi OS 32-bit onto my mSD And booted up. Plugged in the thumb with my restore file and laun...
