Re: What exactly is bcm2835-isp and can it be disabled...

It's used by libcamera. Because V4L2 only allows a single input and/or output queue per device, in order to deliver 3 output streams it has to create 4 nodes (1 in and 3 out), hence /dev/video13-16. Chromium can get confused as it sees /dev/video14 as a source of images so incorrectly guesses it is...

the ISP mainly deals with hw accelerated bayer conversion (raw camera image to rgb or yuv), if you disable bcm2835-isp then i expect the internal camera port will not work in certain configurations
Thank you. So my next question is: How to disable it?

... without wreaking havoc with essential parts of the system? I ask because I suspect it's what's causing the problems I'm still having getting a webcam working on web video chat platforms like Jitsi and Google meet. (See this thread: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3064...

Re: New Ubuntu Mate arm64 RaspberryPi 4 image (minimal and server images also available)

Audio configuration? Which file(s) do I need to edit, and how, so that default sound output uses usb soundcard and input uses usb webcam microphone? Currently we have to open the sound settings after every reboot and set the output to the usb soundcard. (The webcam is usually set as input/microphone...

Re: Setting Audio Out to analogue jack interferes with mouse and webcam

That's not the latest firmware. It's in rpi-update, not apt. Eventually the apt package will be updated to bump the firmware revision. Ah! Thanks for pointing that out. I've now run rpi-update and it certainly helps, but I think to the extent that it reveals I've probably had another issue all alon...

Re: Basic Knowledge Problem

To save me getting off the couch at the end on every track I'm using a pr of binoculars to see the screen and a WiFi mouse to move the cusor. Not ideal but I'm getting there. Do you have a tablet of any kind? If so, I strongly recommend you give VNC a try. See step 7 in my previous post. It's easy ...

Re: Basic Knowledge Problem

Hi again Alan, I'm glad you're up for getting this going. (I'm going to be 72 this week, btw, so not that far behind you!) I have a RPi4 which I bought recently to act as a music server/player, so I'll try to recall step by step what I did. 1. As you've not updated the OS since first installing it, ...

It's difficult to help you without knowing a bit more of your situation. Have you updated the OS since Christmas? Which version of the OS are you using? Do you know how to launch and use the terminal? Have you read the official documentation on audio configuration? Are you able to see the flash driv...

Re: Setting Audio Out to analogue jack interferes with mouse and webcam

Sad to report there's little change for us. On Jit.si the mouse keeps going now, just freezing momentarily as the camera tries to work, and operating smoothly again once the camera cuts out. Jit.si gives an error message "unable to access camera". On Google Meet it's just the same as befor...

Re: Seeking advice re monitoring audio output

Thanks @hal8000 for this useful info. As you'll see from above, it's the increasingly inscrutable BBC that I'm currently trying to fathom, but I'm also keen to learn more in the whole area of streaming audio, so your pointers are valuable. (And it's reassuring to be told it's not a daft question!)

Re: Seeking advice re monitoring audio output

why is it very important for you to know those (audio) information? curiosity's sake? I suppose I want to put my ears and my audio system to the test: can I tell the difference between music broadcast at 98kbs and 320kbs, between an mp3 stream and aac? First I need to know accurately what each is (...

Seeking advice re monitoring audio output

I'm using a RPi4 to explore internet radio and other online audio streaming sources and I want to be able to compare details such as container format, bitrate, etc. In many situations this info is displayed automatically, but not all. Listening to BBC radio via their Sounds website on Chrome, for ex...

Re: Setting Audio Out to analogue jack interferes with mouse and webcam

Does the symptom change with the version of the installed firmware? Follow the steps in the github issue to swap between a version I suspect to be causing the issue and the one prior. Both those versions have the same effect: camera doesn't come on, Jit.si gives "Unable to access camera" ...

Re: Setting Audio Out to analogue jack interferes with mouse and webcam

Now I use need to figure out a way to hook his speakers up to the Pi before Monday. Difficult to sort it by Monday unless you already have the kit. I've tested two methods, both of which work. Simplest is to use a USB sound card. I can confirm this ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01N905VOY?p...

Re: New Ubuntu Mate arm64 RaspberryPi 4 image (minimal and server images also available)

A couple of minor irritations I'd be grateful for help with. Both are related to my earlier posts about difficulty getting a usb webcam set up to work on video calling platforms. It turns out that a major contributor to the problem was that I was using the analogue jack for audio output rather than ...

Re: Setting Audio Out to analogue jack interferes with mouse and webcam

I am having the same issue on a Pi4 4GB running Google Meet inside Chromium. I'm running Raspbian, and tried a completely fresh install with the latest January image. I am using a Logitech c920 webcam. It is fluid and good when in the cheese app, or with HDMI audio selected. But when I go to Google...

Setting Audio Out to analogue jack interferes with mouse and webcam

This topic seems to have gone quiet now, and I've only just returned after having to deal with other matters, but things seem to have improved in the meantime as I can now make a working video call on at least two platforms: meet.jit.si and Google Hangouts/Meet. Not good quality (which may be more d...

@fivenote - thanks for your post. As @murple says, it's very helpful and gives us more to work on. It's complicated of course by Rich's conclusion, but my own inclination is to persevere with the other webcam, a Logitech C270, as I know that should be fine with any linux system : http://ideasonboar...

Edit 2: downgraded the vl805 fi...

Re: New Ubuntu Mate arm64 RaspberryPi 4 image (minimal and server images also available)

Unable to use webcam I have a cheap web camera ( Defender C-110 ) which works without issues on my Ubuntu 20.10 image. Most web cameras do not need any tweaks or drivers and should just work. Some applications using it may have some issues, test the camera first with some applications which are kno...

Re: Audio activation causes webcam to freeze

Hi Rich, good to have you back on the case! Yes, makes sense to test a camera with the same ID as ours. Will await results of that tomorrow. As far as the firmware goes, I've been reluctant to make changes as my wife relies on the Pi4 for her desktop, and apart from the webcam problem, it's running ...
