WD SSD in an external Inatek case
Heads up. I have been using a WD SSD in an external Inatek case for the past couple of months. It has been working very well. I went to an SSD for potential speed and reliability. The speed is good, reliability will take time to determine. This morning, I re-organized my work desk. In the process, I...

Re: Edson Programmable robot
Python2 is deprecated but still usable. It is included in the python distribution that is standard on the Raspberry Pi. Once you get your bot working with Python2, it would be a good exercise to convert the program to Python3.

Re: external power supply samsung power bank
Very good. I will order a couple of the official power supplies. I guess I was mistaken about the Anker.
Besides, it will support the Foundation which is a very good thing.
Thank you so much,

Re: external power supply samsung power bank
Bottom line: What is a recommended USB C power supply that will support the RPi 4 with an external USB adapted external SSD? I have an Anker USB C power supply that is rated at 5 volts 3 amps. I still get low voltage warnings from time to time. I have quality cables that are pretty short. Thank you,...

Re: Arm 32 bit Assemply in Raspi OS 64?
I was afraid of that.
I am experimenting with AAarch32 and AAarch64.
The easiest thing to do is swap out SD cards or have two different RPi s to boot.
Thank you.

Arm 32 bit Assemply in Raspi OS 64?
When compiling arm 32 bit assembly code on an RPi 4 - 4Gb - running RaspOS 64 beta with gnu as: Is there an gnu as option to compile ARM 32 bit assembly that will run on RaspiOS 64? Arm64 assembly works as expected but Arm32 will not. Arm32 assembles fine in Raspi OS standard. I know that RaspiOS st...

Re: Increase Number of Lines in Shell Terminal?
The "I don't work for you was in GlowinInTheDark's followup post. It was later edited out. I did specify in the original post that I was using a USB to GPIO access using an Adafruit adapter. // I am using Win 10 PuTTY to open a shell terminal in my RPi 4 on a USB Port through the GPIO. The prob...

Re: Increase Number of Lines in Shell Terminal?
Followup and back story: When in the shell terminal via Putty : stty rows 40 - did ncrease the number of displayed rows as desired. None of the other solutions worked for whatever reason. I did notice the missing quote in one responder's suggestion. It still didn't work. Back story: I was using the ...

Re: Increase Number of Lines in Shell Terminal?
Whew. Some responses.... I am taking the easy way out. Rather than shell into the RPi with my Win 10, I am just going to use a separate monitor and keyboard. My desk after retiring is small and I was trying to conserve space. Two smaller monitors will do. If not for one development program that a us...

Re: Increase Number of Lines in Shell Terminal?
No joy, yet.
stty still reporting and displaying only 24 rows (lines) regardless of the putty setting.
I tried all of the above avenues to address this issue.
I am using the Adafruit USB-to-Serial (3.3v TTL) adapter. It is supposed to be good.
Thank you for the assistance.

Increase Number of Lines in Shell Terminal?
I am using Win 10 PuTTY to open a shell terminal in my RPi 4 on a USB Port through the GPIO. RasPi OS seems to be limiting the number of rows in the terminal to 24. Even when I change the settings in PuTTY to more than 24 lines, it will still only display 24 rows from the RPi. I have looked at ssh_c...

Re: STICKY: Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit) beta test version feedback
I have my headless RPi 4 running via USB Boot, now. I used the tutorial available at Tom's Hardware. It was easy to setup with a Kingston 120 gb SSD in an Inatek enclosure. It is running straight from the USB port with no other external power without problem.
Well worth the effort.

Re: Baremetal resources for the Raspberry pi 4B?
I had to downsize my desk for a time. I am now logging into my RPi from my Win10 computer using Putty via a USB connection through the GPIO. I usually use the command line anyway so it is working out well. The RPi 4 with Raspi OS 64 is very fast when compiling.
Thank you for the tips.

IMHO, anyone learning coding today should default to Python3.
Python3 should be the default install on Raspi OS.

Hi Sean,
I just purchased your texts through your website. At this time I only have one RPi 4 and several older RPis. I hope to begin exploring this week.

Re: STICKY: Raspberry Pi OS (64 bit) beta test version feedback
The multi keystroke problem is definitely due to Raspi OS 64. It is only with the GUI desktop, not the command line terminal.
Standard Raspi OS does not have the problem. In addition, 64 bit Ubuntu Mate does not have the problem.
Thank you,

Re: Updated 64-bit Gentoo Image for RPi3 Released (now also for RPi3B+ and RPi4B)
Editing the config.txt did the trick. I had to edit the file from an auxilliary drive on the RPi. Win 10 would not let me open the file system. Ubuntu installed and ran fine. It still doesn't care for my monitor. No settings were available to make it as clear as RPi OS. It was worth a try. I just pr...

Re: Price and size of a Raspberry Pi 3 or 4
I remember taking a C/Unix course at a university in 1990. The lab "computer" was a Sequent with a 4 CPUs. All access was through 4 connected terminals. 386 laptops were a big deal then. I had a new Zeos 386 with a monochrome display. I ordered a Unix clone called Coherent from Mark Willia...

Re: Updated 64-bit Gentoo Image for RPi3 Released (now also for RPi3B+ and RPi4B)
After reading this thread and another from the General Discussion that it is linked to, I tried the new 64 bit version on my RPi 4 - 4 Gb. When I try to boot, my older HP display does not display correctly. The is a shape across the middle that is roughly a wedge that is shifted. It is as if it is r...

Re: How necessary is extra cooling for the RPi4 now?
I am an RPi original adopter. I had the first RPi in the first PiBow case (the one with the hearts etched on the top.) As performance density increases in an electronic device, cooling becomes an issue. The RPi 4 have reached that level. As with all of my Pis, my 4B - 4 Gb is in a PiBow case. It is ...
