Re: Question about Raspberry Pi 4 LED design

As I said, I wanted to understand the design decision and that's all. Questions are allowed on this forum, right? The hardware design is proprietary, some parts belong to Broadcom. It is NOT open hardware, so don't be surprised when your hardware design questions are rejected, ignored or prohibited...

Re: Question about Raspberry Pi 4 LED design

Now, that's a short one: Why are the activity LEDs acting the way they act? I want to understand the design decision, as I would have done it totally different: I'd have only the green LED(s) light up when the Pi is up and running, having the green LED maybe flash on storage or (heavy) cpu activity...

Re: PI4 no signal on new Sony tv

Have you tried different resolutions, say 720p, 1080p and 4K? Have you tried using different cables? Have you tried another mini HDMI or micro or whatever the Pi 4 uses to full size HDMI? And, for fun and giggles, have you tried using another OS like Ubuntu instead of Pi OS? (https://ubuntu-mate.or...

Re: PI4 no signal on new Sony tv

I just bought a new tv (Sony Bravia KD-55XF9005) which I want to use with my pi 4b. The pi4 worked on my old Sony tv (with some changes to /boot/config.txt), but I get "no signal" on the new tv, no matter what I try. My old pi 3b, works fine on the new tv, so I don't think the tv is the problem. If...

Re: DHCP Server unreliable (Dnsmasq)

Thanks very much for your help About the Windows clients: When a client can't resolve Google or whatever domain name, what does a nslookup on said client tell you? Which dns server gets used? Also flush your local dns cache in each Windows client using "ipconfig /flushdns", so cached dns entries ar...

Re: DHCP Server unreliable (Dnsmasq)

Hi, Thanks for your answer. In the logs above, the android phone was a WiFi device, the others were Ethernet at that point I believe. I have Ethernet cables in the walls, and a TPLink 8 port switch down in the basement which links all of that to the ISP router. With the RPi running dnsmasq and the ...

AIUI it's not a "Google Survey" but happens to use a Google form (ie. the responses are anonymous to Google). Have you read the relevant blog post: https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/latest ... -may-2020/ ?

Why Google Survey at the end of a fresh installation?

A few months ago, when I was installing Raspbian, I was not sent to a Google Survey on the first time starting up the browser after a fresh install of Raspbian. Having reinstalled a Pi 4 recently with Raspberry Pi OS, I'm astonished to see that the browser points me to a Google Survey. What's up wit...

Re: Raspberry Pi4B Locking up when VNC is enabled

I did not mention it in the text of the problem, but I already tried all 3 of these. The micro SD card is 32GB Sandisk. The power supply and cable are new delivered with the purchase of RPi4B. Obviously it had no effect. That is why I think this is a strange problem.!!!! Ok, so the psu, memory card...

Re: Raspberry Pi4B Locking up when VNC is enabled

- use a fresh microSD card
- use a different USB-C cable
- use a different 15 watts (5v/3A) power supply

Have you tried that already? Tell us about the outcome, thanks.

Re: Pi 4 WiFi bit rate dropping exactly every 1 minute

Have a look at Kismet. It's a tool to passively record all wifi packets. Record packets for a few minutes, then compare the moment when your link speed is dropping to the same moment in Kismet and see, what is actually going on in the air around you. If this is exactly every minute, there has to be ...

Re: SSH using hostname unreliable

The whole problem does not make any sense, from my perspective. Connecting via IP or host name is essentially the same thing, as the host name gets resolved once and all traffic happens against the resolved IP address, but not against the host name. What I'm saying is, that the host name is just ini...

I'll do the other tests but this might take a while, as I only have one Pi 4 for testing, each test setup takes at least 4 hours and I have to run each test sequentially, so might be a day or two for reproducible results. Will keep you posted. To speed up your tests, consider adding a RAM monitor t...

Re: Pi4 USB ports stop working suddenly, maybe USB SSD power issue?

" there should still be at least 900 mA available for the SSD" Might not be enough. Your SSD is rated at 3.3 volts 1.7 amps, which is a maximum power consumption of 5.61 watts. Voltage conversion inside your external m.2 case adds additional power requirements, as no voltage conversion happens with ...

Video streaming: Memory overflow in Chromium after some hours

tl;dr Chromium eats the whole ram of a 2 GB Pi 4 while playing online streaming video in one single window (no other Chromium windows, just one) after a few hours. Before the system becomes unresponsive, streaming from Netflix or Disney+ works totally flawless. Setup: -Pi 4 2 GB -Chromium with DRM ...
