Re: VNC Resolution

I've got one issue left though: say I boot up headlessly and get the 1024x768 resolution (instead of the 1280x720 I actually set in /etc/rc.local) when I connect with vncviewer. Now I want to change this to 1920x1080 cause I'm working from my PC with a FullHD monitor instead of my laptop. So in vncv...

Re: So, there's really no functional kiosk mode, huh?

Not really. While finding this script at the beginning would have made things easier, it still does not work entirely since the --noerrdialogs flag does not work. I've worked around this by overwriting the Preferences on each reboot so Chromium does not realize it hasn't been closed properly. At the...

Re: Network Traffic Monitor

I've checked all tools mentioned in this thread but since I'm a Linux newbie and don't have a clue of setting up Wireshark filters I'm not getting the info that I need. We've installed a Raspi for digital signage that is connected to a GSM router since the store's WiFi is spotty. The Raspi only disp...

Re: So, there's really no functional kiosk mode, huh?

I've checked the links you guys provided but I think these solutions are overkill for our use case. I've used workarounds to suppress Chromiums error messages and xdotool to login to a webpage so it's working for now. Still, I'd never thought Google/Mozilla would make it this cumbersome.

Re: VNC Resolution

Thanks but since VNC starts flawlessly when connected to an HDMI port, I'm sure it's no path issue. Still, I've entered the absolute path in rc.local and it makes no difference: the Raspi shows 'cannot currently show the desktop'. After a reboot with the HDMI cable plugged in, I can connect to VNC f...

Re: VNC Resolution

Even weirder now: I've cloned the SD card in my Raspi and used in the other Raspi to be installed in the store. I've changed the name of this one and everything's working fine except I cannot access VNC when the Raspi is not connected to an HDMI port despite also using 'vncserver -randr=1280x720' in...

Re: New "Can't update Chromium" message?

Here is a one line command to create this workaround if anyone is interested - I have verified that it stops the nag: sudo touch /etc/chromium-browser/customizations/01-disable-update-check;echo CHROMIUM_FLAGS=\"\$\{CHROMIUM_FLAGS\} --check-for-update-interval=31536000\" | sudo tee /etc/chromium-br...

Re: VNC Resolution

Thanks, my home dir looks like this though:

.vnc/config.d

which is empty and

.vnc/vncchat.xml

which is empty too.

Re: Pi Zero W connect to wifi on boot

I'm using a Raspi 4 with Buster and read the docs linked to by B.Goode which IMO do not state specifically that having connected to the WiFi once manually from X will have the Raspi do so on every reboot automatically. I assume that is the case and it would make sense but I just wanna make sure sinc...

Re: VNC Resolution

@lugee I'm not sure I follow you. When I connect the Raspi to my TV, the resolution always is at 1920x1080x60, even when it's plugged in after boot. However, when I want to configure the Raspi from my laptop (1366x768) or my PC (1920x1080) without being connected to the TV, I would like to do so via...

Re: VNC Resolution

You're sure? Cause I've set the resolution via 'sudo raspi-config' to 1920x1080x60 and my TV only switched once but not again with X coming up. I also can start a virtual vnc screen for headless configuration with 'vncserver -randr=1280x720' in '/etc/rc.local'. However, when the HDMI cable is unplug...

So, there's really no functional kiosk mode, huh?

I can't believe this but apparently it's actually the case: both Chromium and Firefox won't run in kiosk mode for me. I mean, they do on initial startup but when any of the browsers is closed unexpectedly (there's no 24/7 power supply in the store) the next reboot will ask about a session restore. S...

Thanks, I've tried both and xdotool seems to work better.

Auto login with Chromium in kiosk mode for digital signage

I've unexpectedly been tasked with setting this up for one of our customers, apparently because I do own a Raspi 3 running Raspbian  I've browsed various resources but I seem to be unable to get this to work. Chromium does start up in kiosk mode, loads the webpage and autofills the saved crede...
