Yep audio from on board port ok.
need to be able to input audio as well as send it

have tried 3 different usb audio deviced with failure on all three

I to had this ussue with a powered hub, I opened up the hub and cut the track providing power to the usb master. now it functions perfectly with the pi and i can't see any "nasties" on the power line on my scope.
