Re: ds remote access for raspberry pi

It may be easier to get the web browser cart for the ds and set up a web server on the pi that you can use to 'do stuff'

what does this mean? Same XBMC system (i.e. Raspbmc OR Xbian) and same Audio settings in XBMC?
Does your friend have a better (faster) memory card, can you try your Pi with friends card ?

May not make a difference but worth trying.

And you don't miss any *functionality* on the Raspi either - the same programs run as did before! It's perhaps leather seats, but not a more powerful engine. But that wasn't my point. Which was that things change, and what's good one day will be bettered the next, especially in the technology arena...

Re: Is 512mb a good thing?

A week or two ago I bought some car parts, oil, and a new oil filter. I got a discount! Woot. Then, the very next day, I got an email from the company announcing a week of even better deals - I could have bought the oil and got the filter FREE. That's almost at the same level of costs as new Raspi....

Re: Modem for RasPI?

I cant see any reason why it wouldn't work, you could look at using a usb->serial adaptor and any old serial modem, instead of getting a new modem.

512 is better than 256.
512 is better for everyone, apart from those of us who already have a 256 unit and don't want to buy another one.

Re: Request for Static IP setup in raspi-config

[Mod: Changed thread title to something less insulting] I note a trend in that images are being supplied with one of the most important aspects of Linux crippled. There has always been a method in Debian installs at least to set a static ip address at install time. This is the primary method to con...

Re: confused about H264 encoding

ok, thanks guys, I was thinking more of a slingbox type setup, rather than using the Pi to watch the stream.

I saw a thread about setting up tvheadend and xbmc, if you want to just use the Pi as a tv reciever.

Re: confused about H264 encoding

What inputs? Remember the hdmi and composite connections are outputs. You could connect a USB TV decoder, which might produce MPEG2 encoded video (USB is not fast enough for uncompressed video). You could create an OopenMAX pipeline that decoded MPEG2 (if you'd paid for the licence), and re-rencode...

Re: confused about H264 encoding

Could the H264 encoding be used to re-encode, say, mpeg video to H264, like handbrake does, or have I missed the point somewhere ? Bill Yes, it could, although not in real time - the encode/decode blocks in the chip can handle 1080p30 encode OR decode but not at the same time. However, on SD resolu...

Re: Mass SD Production

You are assuming quite a few things here.

1, the pi will be supplied with a SD card.
2, kids in schools aren't clever enough to download the image once and burn it to multiple cards.
3, every person will download the image at once.

just wondering how much of an issue this would be in reality ?
