Re: PiNoIR For Astrophotography

Yeah but I don't want to give the wrong impression that the Pi camera was sold with a 5 mega pixel HD CCD imagine sensor now that would be pretty amazing. :) CMOS and CCD are both equally good for taking photos but CMOS is petty rubbish for videos on the move due to rolling shutter technology and t...

Re: PiNoIR For Astrophotography

The Pi Camera uses CMOS technology not CCD. As for long time exposure I don't believe this is possible with existing software yet, you would probably have to settle for cheap tricks like taking many images and interpolating them all with gamma enhancement. Richard S. Thanks, I know the camera is CM...

PiNoIR For Astrophotography

Hi Guys I have been long interested in making my RPi work as a camera to mount on my telescope, others of my posts have details of a case for the Pi itself and also I have a design for a housing for the camera module that fits it to a standard 1.25" focus mount. I have been able to take the lens fro...

Share Internet on Macbook Using Static IP

Hello guys, I'm fairly new to all this so pleas ebe gentle with me, though I do have a lot of computer experience, it's with Windows based machines. The issue I am having is this. I have my RPi all set up with the latest version of Raspbian, which I have updated using the command lines. I have set u...

Re: My Camera arrived today... what now?

I'm hoping to design a case for it using the same 3D printing that I used for my RPi case, So what shape camera case are you going to make? :D Bird decoy or novelty plastic Hasselblad? :D It's going to be fun watching all the crazy shapes people come up with... It will be a shape that is suitable f...

Re: Taking photo from a Telescope...

This is exactly my intention for the camera module and have asked the question about removing the elns, for which I was told would be a no-go, but as I don;t have the module yet (it's on order) I won't know until I can actually see it. I intend to produce a 3D printed housing for it which will inclu...

Re: My Camera arrived today... what now?

Another one lass at Farnell now, hope it is good now! I'm hoping to design a case for it using the same 3D printing that I used for my RPi case, though I now realise I did not include a slot to allow the ribbon for the camera module out :o .

Re: Self Designed Case for Rapid Prototype

Hi there I'm very interested in this as an astronomer who is also an astrophotographer. What sort of software will you be running and what cameras are you controlling? Iain Hi Iain, sorry to day that I'm not that far along yet, I was originally planning to drive an EQ5 mount with this probably runn...

Re: Self Designed Case for Rapid Prototype

Well it's been a few months since I posted the original CAD rendering of this case and I am pleased to say that it has completed it's build, at last. The delay was due to some holidays and machine failures in the place where it was being made, it was being done for free so I didn't push it. The only...

Camera Board Physical Features

Hi, it there any information on the physical features of the board that the camera unit will be mounted to. Will it have any mounting holes or threads? Personally I would like to screw it into a 1.25" eyepiece but I think this is asking too much, but I do need to hold it somehow. I would like to be ...

Re: Self Designed Case for Rapid Prototype

I'm not sure if it is SLA or 3D printing, it's a friend getting it made at work. I will post pictures when I have it, with and without the board in. I've changed it a little from the pictures above, added a window to see the LEDs with the wording from the board etched into the side. Given more shape...

Re: Self Designed Case for Rapid Prototype

Have just realised that the model I got from GrabCAD is slightly out on the dimensions. My board is 2mm wider.

Re: Cable Length

I see, maybe I'll have to return to thinking about a USB camera then, I couldn't have the case 150mm from the focus mount.

Thanks

Cable Length

Hi, assuming this works like I think it does and plugs into the board somewhere, how long will the cable be and what size will the connector be? I'm designing a case and want to make sure I cover everything. Ideally a cable that's 12" long will be best for me, my Pi will be mounted on the body of my...

Re: Self Designed Case for Rapid Prototype

Thanks for the info, but I think I'm covered. I've got a rev2 board with the mounting holes in.

This will be made by rapid prototype (also known as 3D printing) so no concerns with milling. Problem is I can't thread it so I need to capture the board between the plastic.

Self Designed Case for Rapid Prototype

I have designed a case for my own amusement for the Pi, this is designed to be strapped to my telescope body so that I can use it in the future for image capture, hopefully in the more distant future also scope control and maybe even remote access through the internet! I have designed it in two part...

Re: Farnell VS RS delivery times

Update on my Pi order:

Ordered from Farnell following cancellation of RS order (after 5week delay email) on Friday 31st August. Got an email to say that it had been shopped on Wednesday 5th September, great work Farnell. I'm hoping for a UK made one too!

Same experience here, ordered on August 31 and shipped Wednesday 12th.

Swapped my order from RS to Farnell following email from RS to say that I'd be waiting another 5 weeks! Hope I get one of the Made in UK ones!

Cancelled my order with RS and ordered with Farnell who're quoting within 3 weeks for their shipping. RS have had me waiting since June, originally registered in April!
