Re: Removing systemd on Jessie

Almost 3 years later and the same trick also works on Raspbian/Debian 9 stretch with systemd removed.
Add a line with:

Code: Select all

udev_log="err"
in /etc/udev/udev.conf
and the annoying ~2 min boot delay is gone (and the Pi boots faster with sysvinit than with systemd).

Re: glibc vulnerability - is raspbian affected?

You might want to do some checking, not rebooting blindly. (this assumes you have a working email service configured on your RPi with proper settings on your internet egress ) #!/bin/sh apt-get update > /tmp/upgradelog.txt 2>&1 apt-get upgrade -yes >> /tmp/upgradelog.txt 2>&1 EXITCODE=?$ if [ $EXITC...

Re: glibc vulnerability - is raspbian affected?

2 Is there a good way to get automatic alerts about such serious vulnerabilities that affect raspbian? Subscribe to Debian-Security-Announce mailing list - https://lists.debian.org/debian-security-announce/ Raspbian is 99% Debian, so all debian bugs (unless x86-specific) will also be in raspbian. W...

Re: The Raspberry Pi 2 Q&A thread

question is: Is the new Pi powerful enough (CPU, RAM) to run real (x86) Windows (not any version of this "10" abomination) effectively under some emulator (e.g., QEMU, etc) ? No. Given the 1.8-2x speed increase, we might expect to get an x86 emulation about equivalent to a 120MHz '486. Anyways it w...

Re: The Raspberry Pi 2 Q&A thread

Will MPEG2 and VC-1 licences still be needed for hardware-decoding ?
Or is the new quad-core CPU fast enough that it would not matter anymore ?

Thanks.

Re: Ways to make a RPi2 NOT able to run Win10

So if it doesn't have a GUI this means you won't be able to program directly on a Win10-running RPi2. Yay for education. And even if MS will eventually give it a GUI - i don't think they will port their Visual IoT Studio on any of their developer tools to a ARM-based device - you will still need to ...

Dog in the manger ? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dog_in_the_Manger I'm asking if there's a way to make my own personal Dog-only manger to be MS-Horse-free. Even if there aren't any horses around. And any MS-Horse lover can buy his own manger for $35. Hoping to have some OS Gurus in here that ...

Does the Raspberry Pi 2 also needs MPEG keys for decoding or they are "built-in" with the new CPU ?

Ways to make a RPi2 NOT able to run Win10

Hi everyone, One of the main reasons i loved the Original Pi was the fact that it won't directly run anything related to Microsoft. I know it's a bit early to ask but are there some programmable fuses i can burn in the RPi2's CPU to ensure that Windows 10 will never ever boot on it but Linux will co...

Re: Simple Pi Rack Mk II

Get a RJ45 crimping tool, some unshielded CAT5 "patch" cable (thin and flexible) and RJ45 connectors and make your own cables as short as you want. Its easy and in the medium-long run cheaper than buying ready-made ethernet cables. There's no need for shielding on 100Mbps Ethernet and even Gigabit w...

Now that the RPi Cameras have started shipping, has anyone replaced the standard Flex cable with a shorter or longer one ?

If yes - what flex cable you used and from where you bought it ?

Re: How to order from non-UK countries?

I just managed to order 3 cameras from the local (Romanian) Farnell site.
It kept gave me the "cannot add item" error until about 30 minutes ago when 120 cameras appeared in stock and i could add them to my order.
So, whoever had errors trying to order from Farnell - just try again.

That 4.3" composite screen uses 5V internally - you can open-it, bypass it's regulator and power-it from the save 5V source as the RPi.

The 720p mode with 2x2 pixel binning & filtering looks VERY interesting as it brings: - Better low-light performance; - Lower noise; - "Faster" images (thus less motion shearing); - Wider image - at it uses almost the whole sensor (2560x1440 out of 2592x1944 as opposed to ~40% of the sensor area at ...

Just a note.
The manual files cannot be opened with the "free" InDesign CS2 Adobe just made available - a newer InDesign version is needed.
