Re: USB 3.0 power bypass (Rpi 4)

Did you get anywhere with this?

I'm also trying to set up OpenAuto with a buck converter powering both the pi and the powered hub.

Cheers!

Also make sure you're tying your grounds together, the Pis ground should be connected to the ground on the ATX supply, and the ground on the buck converters.
Can you explain this to me a bit? Why is that? Thanks for the replies!!

Why are you using a motor vehicle converter when the 12v ATX provides more than enough 5v current? What am I missing?

If Pi don't blink 4x w/5v but w/o SD then it's certainly dead.
This is going into a car, for now I'm bench testing it.

Replicating the 12v for that reason.

Re: Rpi 4 dead, trying to avoid repeat. (1st timer)

There is no law (either electrical or legal) which states that red wires shall only be used for positive supply lines. Yes, most times that convention is followed. But never depend on it. Fair point. I'm optimistic this follows USB convention... I'll find out quickly enough. Maybe test it with my l...

Re: Rpi 4 dead, trying to avoid repeat. (1st timer)

I'll try that, not sure what it will do for me. In the meantime - I've consolidated my power supply for the hub and rpi4 to the one 5v15a converter. I also snipped the red power wire from the hub > Rpi4 - so hopefully it will not get any errant power through that issue. Hopefully all will be well!.....

Rpi 4 dead, trying to avoid repeat. (1st timer)

Hello! I added a comment to a similar situation, but figured I should post my own thread rather. Working on a car setup, been doing bench testing of my system. In my most recent setup - I had things connected as follows. 12v ATX power supply (powering both buck converters) > 12v-5v15a buck converter...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB) has no green light

I just killed my rpi4 also. Not sure what caused it. Someone suggested it may have been backfed power via my powered usb hub. I had them powered from seperate 12v-5v converters. Perhaps I needed to power then from the same source? My green act led briefly lights when power inserted but then goes off...
