Re: [SOLVED] Sox errors playing mp3 files even with libsox-fmt-all installed

For the benefit of future adventurers, if you are looking for brief test clips for .wav and .mp3 that you know work with sox, aplay, mpg123 and others, try these two:

Code: Select all

wget https://www.kozco.com/tech/piano2.wav
wget https://www.kozco.com/tech/organfinale.mp3

Re: [SOLVED] Sox errors playing mp3 files even with libsox-fmt-all installed

Some .mp3 files that may have corrupted or malformed headers or content will choke play and it may throw red herring errors about WAV formats. If you are confident an mp3 is an MP3 and other players like mpg123 can play it, try calling play with the -t flag to set the file type: play -t mp3 knight_r...

Re: Buster bug report thread

There appears to be a bug that leads to a process hang if you try and use the auto-configured alsa dmix:* interfaces for the onboard audio (at least on the Pi 3B running Buster Lite). For the benefit of google and due to it's length, I posted this bug report in it's own thread here: https://www.rasp...

Raspbian Buster - ALSA - dmix interface for onboard audio hangs - workaround is use device sysdefault

The auto ALSA dmix device, auto configured for the onboard audio, appears to have a bug and does not function correctly. I have identified a repeatable problem with the default (auto configured) dmix pathways for the Pi onboard audio sound chip under ALSA in Raspbian Buster (lite). Using dmix:CARD=A...

Re: Sox errors playing mp3 files even with libsox-fmt-all installed

Looks like something else may have caused my issue and the packages are ok. I am doing audio work on the system so it is possible I inadvertently impacted something sox was depending on. For those who want a multi-function command line tool that is lightweight and powerful for audio playback, captur...

Re: Sox errors playing mp3 files even with libsox-fmt-all installed

SOLVED: tl;dr Unclear what is different but the steps below on a fresh install appear to have solved the issue. I originally tried it with libsox-fmt-all and had my issue, but the system had various other changes in it so I believe this was a self-inflicted pain. Details on how to cleanly install be...

Re: bluetooth is broken?

I'm on a Pi 3B not a Pi4 but I've spent the last week wrestling with Bluetooth and this may help you. At least when trying to use both onboard WiFi and onboard Bluetooth, you will not get consistent performance (edit) WITHOUT doing these two things: 1) Disable power saving on the WiFi with: sudo iwc...

[SOLVED] Sox errors playing mp3 files even with libsox-fmt-all installed

System is Raspbian GNU/Linux 10 on a Raspberry Pi 3b installed via Balena etcher from the Raspbian Lite image. I tried to play an MP3 file from the command line with the play invocation of the sox command. The stock install of sox on Raspbian doesn't not include the extended libraries that support f...

Re: Pi3/MythLight/Stretch 1080i30 MPEG-2 OTA ATSC Playback Stutters

I appear to have found a resolution to the problem. It involves disabling root prioritization (odd, as I run Mythfrontend as the user pi) as well as toggling the sound buffer option below root prioritization, and then switching between OpenMax High and OpenMax Normal. I believe there is a bug or two...

Re: Pi3/MythLight/Stretch 1080i30 MPEG-2 OTA ATSC Playback Stutters

While I appreciate the suggestion, the goal was to look in to the issue rather than completely change the software. Based on my research I am confident it will work with Kodi, but that is a fundamentally different interface and user experience than Myth Frontend on Raspbian. Perhaps I've posted this...

Pi3/MythLight/Stretch 1080i30 MPEG-2 OTA ATSC Playback Stutters

I have a feeling this may be Raspbian related rather than MythTV related. I am going to cross post my detailed post from the MythTV forums here in the hopes it rings a bell with someone who may not be a member of the Myth forum. -- MY ISSUE: 1080i broadcast sources (stable, very few errors) do not p...

Re: Modeal A Q: Can it be USB client instead of USB host?

Answer: Yes I've had USB device mode working on the Pi model A. I just haven't had the Linux gadget interface working with it. I don't know if there's anyone out there with the knowledge to have a go but the software should work with it (although with all the work on the USB host we may have broken...

Re: Modeal A Q: Can it be USB client instead of USB host?

Jim, Your response was unhelpful and dismissive of the original topic while making observations and assumptions that weren't relevant. I think you failed to grasp the context of the question, so I'm surprised you dove in so deeply. Sadly, Internet forums these days seem to be awash with this type of...

Re: Modeal A Q: Can it be USB client instead of USB host?

Jim, While you are entirely correct in what you say, it is not correct to associate your suggestion with the idea that there is not much interest in this. Nor does your suggestion address the need that prompted the question in the first place. A quick Google and a search of the forums indicates that...

Re: Modeal A Q: Can it be USB client instead of USB host?

Now that the model A has been in the wild for a while, I am curious about resurrecting this topic and finding out if any thing has developed on this front that might move this forward? Have there been any advancements made around turning the model A unit in to a USB device instread of a USB host? -J...

Re: Model A as USB device instead of USB host?

It would be really interesting if the foundation could offer the unit with the appropriate connector and in slave mode, as well as the current design in host mode. Even if you put the software in device mode you now need a funny cable as it has a host port. Not clear how that would work elegantly......

Model A as USB device instead of USB host?

I saw in the comments section to the model A prototype announcement a suggestion that it could run as a USB device instead of just a USB host. Is this correct, can you flip it in to USB device mode so it can be a slave to another host?

Re: Modeal A Q: Can it be USB client instead of USB host?

To summarize what I think I have heard from everyone so far: 1) It is likely that the Model A is capable of acting as a USB peripheral rather than its current state in the Model B where it acts as a host/root hub. However, it is not yet known if this is a simple matter of flipping a switch in the dr...

Model A Q: Can it be USB client instead of USB host?

Hello Everyone, I was looking at my model B and the schematics last night and the SMSC chip is both a USB root hub as well as the USB to Ethernet adapter. This is great if you want to connect USB periperhals to the Pi. But what if you want the Pi to BE the peripheral? I have an application where I w...
