Re: Xserver forwarding not working over Wifi

X11 forwarding is enabled on the Putty / Xming settings on both desktop and laptop. It used to work However no longer. All that works is to ignore Putty / Xming per se but use xlaunch to create a config file that connects to Putty without me having to run Putty separately as an administrator. This wo...

Re: Xserver forwarding not working over Wifi

Redhawk: Thanks yep I am sure I have done something wrong the puzzle is "What?". I didn't disable eth0 -never have done. I have no port forwarding enabled with my router if I enter lxsession & on the desktop that is connected with the Pi via Wlan I get Only one lxsession can be executed at a time Bu...

Re: Xserver forwarding not working over Wifi

I think I have a related problem which is making my head spin. I used to use Putty and Xming from various PCs to connect to the PI. Everything worked fine.I then did something - cant remember what and I could no longer connect remotely. I came to the conclusion that XMING was my problem and was some...

Re: No response Startx / Lxde

Thanks for the idea just tried it and sadly "no reply". I will disconnect / reconnect the pi just to see if that changes anything. I wish i knew more about Linux commands and the x system logic. Surely there must be some way to re-establish monitor contact with my pi via ssh commands via wlan.

Re: No response Startx / Lxde

I appreciate the two replies. However I think I may have created a catch22 situation for myself. I can login as pi and I enter the password raspberry. At first earlier today I was then presented with the normal successful login response when one normally enters Startx I realised that I had a problem...

No response Startx / Lxde

Hi have just come back to Pi after v6 weeks or so break. Am using Putty / Xming from Win7. Can log into Pi but then if I enter startx I get the following X.Org X Server 1.12.3 Release Date: 2012-07-09 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Linux 3.2.0-2-mx5 armv7l Debian Current O...

Re: Automatic setup for RTL8188CUS based wifi adapters

I would like to report that edimax dongle installed successfully and am able to connect to it via putty. It is very straightforward once one remembers to press the connect button in the wifi config gui.

Thanks for the advice

Re: Automatic setup for RTL8188CUS based wifi adapters

Thanks for the thoughts. I am new to Linux and am enjoying my education but I fear that exploring the intricacies of DKMS may be a step too far - although I am trempted. The Edimax should arrive tomorrow and reluctantly I think it would be advisable to install that. You wrote that it is very straigh...

I don't know whether this helps or not but a bit of drilling down yields this [email protected]:/home/pi# ls /lib arm-linux-gnueabihf libaudit.so.0.0.0 libipq.so.0 modprobe.d cpp libauparse.so.0 libipq.so.0.0.0 modules firmware libauparse.so.0.0.0 libiptc.so.0 systemd init libip4tc.so.0 libiptc.so.0....

Re: Automatic setup for RTL8188CUS based wifi adapters

@mrengman I have been happily following the link you found for me on installing the drivers and firmware for TENTTW1450. Everything had been going well - firmware is installed. I am now at the driver installation phase - I have installed DKMS & GIT (following the steps in the Debian Texas instructio...

Re: Automatic setup for RTL8188CUS based wifi adapters

Thank you . I have now ordered the edimax as it does seem the most sensible option. However for my own education I will look at your link and see if I can get the AVM dongle working. I don't think there will be any conflict in the two driver firmware support packages being loaded on the same SD.. Al...

Re: Automatic setup for RTL8188CUS based wifi adapters

It is not connected to a USB Hub - but the led is on. I have not tried to do anything yet ref wlan on the Pi which currently is a putty /Xm...

Re: stanI's python editor SPE instructions

I am very green. I am using Putty / Xming to access my Pi remotely. Therefore I can see on my desktop the SPE GUI and the Putty Control window. I realised that I had inadvertently diverted script output to the control screen (which I had minimised) and not the SPE GUI. Everything is running perfectly.

stanI's python editor SPE instructions

Just starting to play with it - would like any beginners tutorial that I can try on it. Have run a couple of very basic short scripts just to see that it was working - and they ran. However later and again today i tried to run them again and I get "script terminated" as only output - and I can't for...

Re: Very Basic Instructions Please

Its certainly not a show stopper - I have printed a qwerty map which I use alongside my qwertz keyboard . I am going to buy another SD card and download a raspian distribution and then use your instructions. In the meantime "its getting to know, understand and use the pi time !"

I tried it but it didn't work. I will look into Debian to see if I can find out how to change the keyboard. This is what Linux said. Ok following your group ideas and instructions I have now been able to access the PI from my desktop remotely with SSH via Putty in harness with XMING with X11 Forwarding enabled. @pluggy thanks for that I had missed it in all the comments. So I can use SSH for accessing OS linux commands but not the "kinky" Pi GUI stuff.
