How would I use a GPIO pin for both input/output in python?

I'm currently trying to figure out how these toy devices talk to each other and relay communication between two of them in python. Eventually I want to match make people with these over the Internet so people can play against each other that way. While debugging the timing for it's communication, I ...

Re: unable to install libgtk2.0-dev Raspberry Pi 3

Well, had to throw that into Google translate. Might want to try switching languages on your Pi to English in the future when posting for help. I think this might be why no one has replied. As for the problem: Try getting the non dev packages upgraded. I found this askubuntu thread that's got a pret...

WinSCP perhaps to copy the file over SSH. You're trying to solve for "how to sftp from Windows to Linux".

Re: Raspberry 4 for Bitcoin mining

I wouldn't bother using any Raspberry Pi's for mining BTC, ETH, LTC, or any other crypto currency that has had any value since the beginning of 2018. If you really want to do mining, go check out tech power up's GPU database and find the best GPUs that you can use for mining. Make sure there is soft...

Re: I keep running into road blocks.

Something I've noticed in my first experiences with Pi's vs a microcontroller like an Arduino is that my Pi was super slow. I've found a couple of things to be true since: - Python is incredibly slow compared to languages I'm used to working with (I ended up working with C & Go and yielded faste...

Re: pi 3 and HDMI

I'm not really familiar with the HDMI spec beyond knowing there's some DRM stuff these days. However, to narrow down WHERE the problem lies, here's some ideas. If you have a spare SD card, can you throw Raspbian on it to see if you can replicate this on stock Raspbian. If you can replicate this, the...

I wouldn't say it's beyond us, I would say we just don't do it because there are better ways that we have access to.

drgeoff delivers. I never ever thought about that before, but that's good to know about if I ever run into issues later and I'm in a pinch. lol

Uhh, that wouldn't void the warranty in the United States, at least for like a year or so.

Tinkering with voltages might arguably be outside of what one could construe as reasonable use of the device.

Sorry to hear you're frustrated OP. sirozha is very correct about this. These devices are very hobbyist oriented. They are great for people that want to tinker and don't mind failing before success. It is never an out of the box solution, if that's what you're looking for. As for what you're wanting...

If you're not updating the way ejolson describes, please explain what you did exactly in your attempt to "update" "to latest linux code". I'm interested to know, does it boot up at all? Like do you at least end up at a login prompt with a shell? If so, use the systemctl to see if...

Re: Raspberry Pi4 isnt reading any sd card

I second rpdom's recommendation. If that doesn't work out, some other thoughts to consider:

- Is your power source sufficient? How are you powering this thing?
- Can you actually read and write anything off the SD card in a working PC?

Re: RDP to GUI session on Raspberry PI 4

Not sure about an RDP server, but VNC is fairly popular for Linux and desktop access: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/remote-access/vnc/ If you don't really need the desktop for whatever you're using it for, use the lite Raspbian to save some resources and just SSH to it over putty. The GU...

I'm actually buying some 0W's in bulk in the near future. These ones actually came headerless, I'm just getting in practice on things that I haven't done yet. The first reply on on this thread was actually very helpful in that regard. It just makes sense that cutting the plastic off and removing it ...

I'm not sure if this is as possible with a Raspberry Pi as with a microcontroller (like an Arduino), but persistence of vision (POV) displays are kindof interesting:

Yeah, but warning, it's pretty gruesome LTolledo. These are pictures of circuit board abuse: https://imgur.com/a/JC6eEfm It looks like I may have a handful that are completely gone. There are probably contacts under a lot of the remaining solder. I got impatient as I wasn't yielding results from a s...

Thanks for the feedback guys and also @Heater for sharing the tip about how to approach desoldering headers in the future.

This was really just a question of curiosity. Luckily I have some software-only things I can still use this Pi0W for and I have a completely unharmed Pi0W still at the ready.

Soldering / lost some contact pads. Would soldering to a padless hole still work?

I had some problems that led to me having to desolder and rip a 40 pin header off my Pi 0 W. The Pi still works, but I lost some of the pads that are visible. Being still new to circuitboard stuff, I'm curious if I soldered new pins on this thing, would it be possible for this to still work? I assum...

Re: Pi4 how do we install apps on external drive

It's bad practice to install apps on external devices in Linux. I see it being very infeasible to exceed 32 GB on just installed programs alone unless you're just trying to bork things on purpose. Use external drives as "data" bearing disks only. If you're finding that /home/USER stuff is ...

If this is supposed to run like a background service, make a systemd unit file and enable it on boot.

Re: Stuck in Lock Screen I cannot change language -

You need to boot into single user mode and disable it from the command line. Mount /boot on the SD card Add this to the end of the line in /boot/cmdline.txt init=/bin/sh Then check this topic out (you're not going to be mousing anything though... just a heads up): https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/...
