Re: switch the ethernet off while using wifi

@pcmanbob : thanks, it works! ifconfig eth0 down does remove the interface logically and in addition does delete its associated routes , leaving the routes using wlan0 intact : which is the desired result ! Subsequently however ifconfig eth0 up does not automagically rebuild routes using eth0 . Oh w...

switch the ethernet off while using wifi

My Pi 4, running vanilla Raspbian GUI, has 2 network connections available, viz. 1. wired ethernet LAN (dedicated IP 192.168.1.10 provided by the DSL gateway's DHCP server) 2. WiFi access to a 4G mobile network IP 192.168.2.x by DHCP. My ADSL is slow but unmetered, 4G much faster but metered, so I w...

cheap hub or otherwise splitter, adapter ? ---> Pi 4's USB-c socket ?

Goal : to make full use of the R Pi4's USB-type C socket and its associated controller, while freeing the built-in USB-A sockets for other needs. Are there adapters on the market out there which would allow simultaneously and safely to : 1. feed-in the DC required by the Pi and accessories, and 2. c...

Well noted and understood. I will leave then the question to rest until I have
a flybox for hands-on testing, in a month or 2 (virus permitting...)

Will apps (TV), designed for mobile phones, work on the Pi ?

I never owned a cellular phone, smart or otherwise, so... this question may be very dumb : with Android on the Raspberry Pi 4, will it be possible to download and run so-called "apps" intended for the Android of "mobile" phones (or tablets) ? As for home internet access, I'm thinking of switching fr...

Re: Setting a static IP address from SD card before boot

I used extfsd with success to access Linux ext2 / ext3) parts under various older Windows versions (XP to Seven, *32 bit* only though). But when I installed and tried the *64* bit version under Windows Ten *64 bits* a few weeks ago, precisely in an attempt to access ext4 parts of my RPi's CF, I had ...

Re: Monitor w/ integrated speakers (HDMI) : Sound too weak

bit off topic but what types of virus and how are they spread, can they be in things like yum and apt (not wget) Sorry, my allusion to viruses was half-tongue in cheek, and maybe not most appropriate. I read general warnings about viruses targetting linux and, of course, there may be actual threats...

Re: So, what's the big new thing for this year's Pi Day (8th anniversary) ?

Happy Pi Day to those who enumerate the month before the year! 3.20? Something wrong there. Have you been infected? Does that virus transmit via phpBB? He probably meant 3.20 decimal , so : 3 Hex, dot, 14 Hex . This is the curious way a certain famed software company used to label successive versio...

Re: Monitor w/ integrated speakers (HDMI) : Sound too weak

You have probably already checked but maybe the cable isn't plugged in enough resulting in a low sound. Another reason maybe that either a pin in the hdmi cable or raspberry pi port is bent or broken which if your unlucky enough could be your issue but this is quite unlikely as I have never had it ...

Re: Monitor w/ integrated speakers (HDMI) : Sound too weak

...it could be the pi outputting too low volume or the monitor volume output being too low or even BOTH  BOTH were maxed already, as stated in the OP (I think) My main HDMI monitor's audio output level....1W + 1W only (according to the spec sheet), but it does sound weak to me.... Monitor w/ integrated speakers (HDMI) : Sound too weak

Hi! I have the Pi 4 output digital video+sound thru HDMI to a standard 22" display panel (BENQ GW2280). This model has integrated speakers, indeed sound from the Pi is functional and clean (not distorted), but the acoustic level comes out quite a bit too low for my hearing comfort - while I have out...

:D Erfolg !!!

Re: [Raspian] How to search for packages efficiently ?

One point to consider is do you want to restrict yourself to prebuild packages in the Raspberry Indeed this question was asking for a way to search within the frame of the official packages for Raspbian. I've found the replies by kerry-s and jahboater above fully adequate within this frame. Of cour...

[Raspian] How to search for packages efficiently ?

The bundled "add/remove programs" applet in the Raspbian GUI appears woefully INcapable of doing intelligent search of any complexity level, can't seem to understand even simple phrases (e.g. seek "command line web browser"...) Is there not a way to do such searches, and more - combining keywords wi...

Re: minimum voltage (arm) ?

On the Pi4 it seems to be ignored, probably because the new DVFS firmware knows better. Negative values appear ignored indeed. Interesting that you put the DVFS in question : I seem to remember there to be a way to switch the DVFS off on a per-boot basis, like, pressing (or relasing ?) shift during...

minimum voltage (arm) ?

Just curious, the base arm voltage is (reported as) 0.80125 without special over_voltage set. Is this the nominal (or close) volts specified for the Pi4 SoC ? Is this base voltage also a hard minimum, or else will the Arm tolerate some amount of under_voltage (aka "negative" over_voltage), and if it...
