Re: Disable transmission-daemon autostart on system boot

Have removed it from these locations: /etc/init/transmission-daemon.conf /etc/init.d/transmission-daemon and moved /etc/system.d/system/multi-user.target.wants/transmission-daemon.service to /etc/system.d/system/transmission-daemon.service Looks like it resolves the problem (I can start/stop the ser...

Disable transmission-daemon autostart on system boot

I'm trying to find a way how to disable the transmission-daemon start on system boot, as I need to launch it from a special script. Neither removing its files from /etc/init.d nor from /etc/init helps. Is it yet possible?

Thank you.

Re: Raspberry 4: HDD (over USB) does not reconnect on reboot

Finally I've resolved the problem of rebooting and mounting by crontab and script: Crontab: @reboot perl /mnt/mount.pl & /mnt/mount.pl: #!/usr/bin/perl use strict; use warnings; my $delay = 20; my $retry_co = 5; for (my $i=0; $i < $retry_co; $i++) { sleep($delay); `mount /dev/sda2 /mnt/sda2`; my $cn...

Re: hdparm service is missing [CLOSED]

after you dismounted all volumes I don't like the idea to dismount volumes. It will make the disk inaccessible, what is definitely not what I want to get. At present I've resolved the standby problem. Disk goes sleeping in 10 min as it is defined in the config. That's just what I'd like to get. Con...

Re: Raspberry 4: HDD (over USB) does not reconnect on reboot

OK, I’m not so familiar with AE links sharing. Really it’s a tricky thing ;) OK, here is it: https://aliexpress.com/item/4000019992623.html And your link doesn’t provide the price, etc. And it asks to register first. I also thought about similar box purchasing in local shops. It’s a bit more expensi...

Re: Raspberry 4: HDD (over USB) does not reconnect on reboot

My 5 cents to this problem: I have this adapter: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_ePrUeh and 3,5” WD Caviar Green 2TB drive. This is not system drive, indeed. Just a data drive. First I tried to use it “as is” with the only external +12V power unit. It didn’t work. It even could not spin up the dri...

Re: hdparm service is missing

Thank you! As for the typo - it’s a copypasting error. Everything is written correctly in the config file. I’ve used this command: /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm resume and it has returned nothing. So, should I consider it, as “ok”? Also I have yet a couple of questions: 1. The response of h...

Re: hdparm service is missing

OK, I’ve read it. That’s the man page for hdparm. Nothing more. Do you wish to say that there is no service and service is not required? Or what? All I wish to do is to spin down the HDD after some predefined time. I’ve set this section in /etc/hdparm.conf dev/sda { write_cache = on spindown_time = ...

hdparm service is missing

Hi, everyone, I’ve installed hdparm package and hdparm is working. But I’ve not understood how to apply its config on system startup. I’ve added appropriate section in config, but AFAIU there should be a service which will launch hdparm. But the hdparm.service is absent. This is what I’ve got: [email protected]...

Hi, All, Has anyone an experience of the Subj? I mean this deb package: fail2ban_0.11.1-1~exp2_all.deb, available at https://packages.debian.org/experimental/all/fail2ban/download In particular I'm of interest to: -- How safe / stable it is -- should I manually remove existing (installed) version, i...

Re: Can't boot with external drive attached

So, I've tried it with another (USB2) box. Now the box takes a power from external supply unit by special cable. RPi takes a power from the same unit, by its own (standard) mini-USB cable. Looks like everything is working. I tried to reboot, and it's rebooted OK. Thus, it's significant notice, that ...

Re: Can't boot with external drive attached

I'd agree concerning power, but then why it works fine after boot? I'm attaching the drive, mount it manually, and it works! The Pi itself is attached to the power unit with 5V / 4A, so I'd suppose that it just can't be the power issue in such case. Doess the boot process apply any specific restrict...

Re: Can't boot with external drive attached

Thank you. First of all, I'd like to note that (see above) I'm using the lite version, so no GUI is available. AFAIU, gparted is a GUI application. I've tried to install command-line gpt, but... it's interface is some non-English. Oops... As for the tip itself, I'm not so skilled in GPT disks, so, i...

Can't boot with external drive attached

Hi, All, I've attached my former mac's external USB drive with two logical volumes (one of them is bootable for macOS X) and create share for it. Everything was OK unless I've rebooted RPi. LAMP + Let'sEncrypt installation guide for buster?

Last question - what install package to use if I don't consider to use it with display? Is the Raspbian Buster Lite enough?
Will remote desktop work with it or will I need to install some packages?

Thank you.

Raspbian vs Debian in Apach 2 / PHP / SSL etc. aspect?

Hi, All,

Say, I've got an "empty" RPi4 4GB, I consider to use as a NAS + web server. What OS is better to install, having in mind that I already have two Ext2 HDD's (no RAID) I'm considering to use via USB without reformatting? Just tell me, if more info is required to answer.

Thank you.

Embed Pi4 into DLink DNS 323 case

Hi, All, I've an old NAS (pointed above) with outdated firmware and rather weak CPU and only 64 MB RAM. It makes me blue :( I've an idea, pointed above.
