Re: Starting out questions

My set up is vertical in open air. Running FlightGear the core temp is about 75C. Under throttling temp. Ambient temp about 24C. I no longer use a heat sink. Only tun the fan on if it might be needed. Enclosures can build up heat.

Re: Software Developer Information

Well, there is such a thing. I have major doubts that I could bankroll much more than a bakers dozen lines of buggy code, though food for thought.

Thanks.

Software Developer Information

I wanted to add information for the FlightGear software developers. What kind of software specifications (quick reference) would help them and also attract them. Like FKMS is some kind of display driver. Other driver/software and versions that would interest them. And any software that is being deve...

Re: FlightGear & Pi4

My plan is three main screens, front, left and right window. Each screen ran with a Pi4. The front screen would have the master Pi4 streaming data to all the other Pi's. Then a bunch of Pi/touch-screens for instruments. I think it is doable, just not sure how far I'll get.

Re: FlightGear & Pi4

Interestingly, when a FG window is spread across two screens it still works. However, I doubt that it is practical because is becomes a bit choppy (lower FPS) in low scenery density area.

7" Official Touch Screen & Pi4

Will there be a case that will house both the Pi4 and the Official 7" Touch Screen? I have two for the Pi3 however they would need to be modified to work with the Pi4.

It would be nice to know because I'm writing a Wiki for the above combination.

Thanks.

Re: PI Power - Commercial battery source

The reason for the 12v battery is that a third world country might have a better chance of having a starter battery for where ever an engine needs started. Still many starter batteries operating in the world.

Re: PI Power - Commercial battery source

These will convert 12/24vdc to USB 5v. Maybe 8-35v. Could carry a few of them, assuming there are 12v batteries at this location.

Re: FlightGear & Pi4

FG was not using all the travel in the Logitech joystick. Same for the throttle quadrant. Also, the quadrant had a dead spot in the center. The fix was found by installing jstest-gtk and calibrating the sticks. Need to figure out how to save these settings, otherwise it needs to be performed at ever...

I had the same problem with my SSD. In the end it was decided to reformat it to ext4. Your mileage will vary!

Re: Why since DVFS firmware can I reboot at a higher arm_freq than from a cold boot?

I do not adjust the freq., however I have noticed that reboots do no longer work. Need to shutdown and then cycle the power switch. Otherwise, just two multi color square boxes. I think the green LED flashes seven times. It flashes fast so a wee bit hard to count.

Re: Reasoning behind dual Micro HDMI, and potential future alternatives?

I have been using the Pi4 with uHDMI with two monitors. Works great and I hope it stays that way for a few years. True, the local store doesn't stock the exact cable I needed for my mini HDMI monitor, but, they also do not stock Raspberry Pi's....

Numeric Touchscreen?

Is there a numeric keyboard to use with the official touchscreen? Currently I am using the alphanumeric touch keyboard with my radio stack in FlightGear. However I do not need the alphabet and a long keyboard takes up a lot of room where a square numeric touch keyboard would be more efficient. Maybe...

Re: FlightGear & Pi4

Phi works with a second Pi. It just needs a browser to display in. To use, pass the command "--htpd=8080 to FG, use your favorite method. Open a browser in the second Pi, or what ever, and use this as the address "192.168.??.??;8080". The ? marks need to be changed to the address of the Pi running F...

Re: FlightGear & Pi4

I can confirm that Logitech/Saitek Pro Flight throttle Quadrant works with FG and Pi. When used with single engine aircraft, it should be plug and play. When used with multi engine aircraft and where one lever controls all the throttles (one lever controls all mixtures, one lever controls all props,...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

With the Pi3 B+, I tried the pure USB boot and decided that, overall, I was better off booting from the SD card. Quality SD cards work amazingly well. However, with the Pi4, I plan on going to a USB boot via the SD card. IMHO, the SD/USB boot is the way to go.

Cheers...

Re: WiFI 2G USB Hub Drive Blues

Long story short: The USB cable supplies power to the SD card reader and the two USB ports. The switchable 12vdc powers the drive side. There are two switching regulators, FR988, that step-down the 12vdc to 5vdc. They are 3A each, plenty of power. :D There is another regulator, however that reduces ...

Today, like magic, it works every time. With the drive hub powered on or off or SSD drive installed (during power up). Yesterday it would not work. I even tried two Pi4's with the same SD card. I even tried an older backed up SD card. It just would not work. Today it works. :? :? The drive that is p...

WiFI 2G USB Hub Drive Blues

When powering up the Pi4 with the drive hub on (self powered), the 2G WiFi will not work. However, if the drive hub is turned off (Pi4 left powered up and running) and then the 2G WiFi is commanded, the 2G WiFi will activate and work. Furthermore, if the drive hub is powered on after the Pi4 is powe...
