Re: Linux kernel is now 3.12

Can't see how this is related to this topic. Because the topic is about the 3.12.x kernels causing "BUG: unsupported FP instruction in kernel mode" and I'm noting that switching the entire BOINC setup to a RasPi v2 makes it go away. Or at least it appears to do so. So it might be related to ARMv6 v...

Re: Linux kernel is now 3.12

I've just updated my RasPi from an early Model B to a (new) Model Bv2. I've carried over the same BOINC set-up (same file-system...) and this runs fine on the new system with kernel 3.18.7-v7+. One thing I do notice is that the old system was an ARMv6 whereas the new one is ARMv7? So perhaps the pro...

Re: Linux kernel is now 3.12

One thing to note about Boinc and the 3.12.x kernel, If you compile Boinc from the Berkeley source and run it from your Home/BOINC directory, then it works perfectly with 3.12.x kernels: I do compile from Berkeley source code (although I run it in a dedicated /extra/BOINC location). I'm rather temp...

Re: Linux kernel is now 3.12

An update of the system has updated raspberrypi-bootloader (as well as libraspberrypi-bin, libraspberrypi-dev, libraspberrypi-doc and libraspberrypi0) from version 1.20140618-1 to 1.20140908-1 whch puts me onto a 3.12.28+ kernel. This continues ot show the "BUG: unsupported FP instruction in kernel ...

Re: Linux kernel is now 3.12

And I can confirm the the problem goes away on reverting to the 3.10.38+ kernel. And I've now seen the BOINC manager put a process into the "preempted" state without it causing any problem with the 3.10.38+ kernel. 1) ----------- name: p2030.20130202.G176.31+00.88.C.b5s0g0.00000_3214_1 WU name: p20...

Re: Linux kernel is now 3.12

Noticed this in the 3.11 changelog: RCU: Remove TINY_PREEMPT_RCU (commit) Could this have something to do with it? Seems unlikely. The 3.10.38+ kernel (which is not showing the problem) wasn't using this, so its removal would have made no difference. [raspi]: zcat /proc/config.gz | grep PREEMPT CON...

Re: Linux kernel is now 3.12

Why do you believe it is that commit? Only that this added the text that is now being reported in the error. Hence the "caused" being put in quotes. And I can confirm the the problem goes away on reverting to the 3.10.38+ kernel. EDIT: And the code was not in 3.10.x, but is in 3.12.x kernels. But t...

Re: Linux kernel is now 3.12

That command got me "back" to 3.10.38+ OK. So I'll see how things go. As for the actual 3.12.x bug, could it be related to this: http://www.emdebian.org/~zumbi/efika.OLD/FreeScaleKernel/linux-kernel/arch/arm/kernel/entry-armv.S which mentions: However, we have to watch out * for the ARM6/ARM7 SWI bu...

Re: Linux kernel is now 3.12

sudo rpi-update f6eef32dd6388c3b04dbf462bd324d93281bf397 Should get you the latest 3.10 kernel. Thanks. It looks like the issue is "caused" by this change: http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-arm-kernel/2013-July/182402.html although that is only adding a test to check something which should...

Re: Linux kernel is now 3.12

I'm seeing the same thing (kernel oops with "unsupported FP instruction in kernel mode") while running BOINC projects. 3.10.x was OK, but 3.12.22+ started the rot, and 3.12.24+ (I've just updated to that with rpi-update to see the effect) is just the same. Is there any way to go back to a 3.10.x ker...

Re: FM Transmitter dongle + software for your Pi :)

Brillaint, thanks. I moved things around at home last night with the intention of getting this set-up to run from my RasPi (hence avoiding having to play straight through the metal-encased fridge on line of sight to the radio on the kitchen - not good for reception). However, the keenectl didn't get...

Re: Raspbian update (to 3.6.11+) results in non-booting syst

Thanks. I take it that by "the Foundation's 2013-02-09 download image" you meant the full 47iMB one. I've downloaded that, unzipped it and mounted the first partition from the image (/boot). Using the two kernel* files from there (which match your sha1sums) gives me a working 3.6.11+ kernel!! Now I'...

Re: Raspbian update (to 3.6.11+) results in non-booting syst

The boot packages are provided by the Raspberry Pi Foundation from a separate repository. They are not part of the Raspbian project, so it is futile to report bugs there. Well, they might like to know... The 1.20130207-1 versions of the packages also do boot fine. Those are the versions included in...

Raspbian update (to 3.6.11+) results in non-booting system

I've just run an update for Raspbian, and it's updated the rasberrypi-loader and moved to a 3.6.11+ kernel. But this will not boot. It just shows a rainbow coloured screen and doesn't try to start. I've switched back to the previous files (which let it boot fine) but has anyone else seen this proble...

Re: New stable firmware update

I too ended up with a system that would not reboot after doing: aptitude update aptitude safe-upgrade aptitude clean I suspect the main problem was that I only have /boot on the SD card - root is on USB. So the newly installed cmdline.txt was wrong (for me). And the config.txt was pushing the overc...

Re: HDMI Power Signal control

i'm curious how the rpi turns on my tv at boot..
If your TV is anything like mine it will because you have your TV configured to turn on when a new signal appears on an HDMI connector.
