GPU_FFT and audio processing? (Guitar FX thread)

Hellö I've been away from the raspi scene for quite a long while now but saw something that caught my eye this morning! I still think Raspberry Pi is an excellent platform for tinkering and has so much more to offer than just a cheapo XBMC player or as an dedicated Amiga emulator (which was one of m...

Re: On the lookout for unique Pi projects

There's thousands of different projects where us tinkerers have used a Raspberry Pi in various ways but I guess most of them are considered "in progress", hence the lack of posts here. We have everything from home automation to robotics, game emulators to headless media centers and everything else y...

Re: Assembly - any use in teaching it?

DexOS covered it well by explaining "in order to understand structured programming you must know what's under the hood..." Well, not exactly in those words but roughly ;) This is the whole truth behind why people should still learn assembler! I never went to university and I dropped out of school ve...

Re: Assembly - any use in teaching it?

Back "in the days" when one had very little to chose from we had cobol, basic, c and assembler to choose from. (well, there were many other languages and dialects but they were specialised) I wrote my first code in basic on a PET but was told early on that if you wanted to be a real coder (elite was...

Re: ls / command

ls lists files and directories in the current, or specifiec, pwd (path). By default ls omitts dot-files (.whatever) but takes plenty of parameters. ls -F gives a "full" list but omitts hidden files. ls -al lists all files and with long description. It's common to add an alias to ls in .bashrc in or...

Re: Foundation Camera Board information

Enough with the questions and "why not this feature"... - Well bloody done! $25 camera sensor with those specs looks very promising! I shall order a handfull as soon as possible and my Raspberry Pi car-puter will now be outfitted with a camera or two to complement all the other weird electronic bits...

Re: kind of unfair for early model b buyers

Why would this be unfair? The original spec stated 256 MB, nothing more, nothing less and that's what the Pi is priced for. During production the price for 512 MB, and also availability I suspect shifted production towards 512 MB. I own quite a few different variants of Raspberry Pi and when I creat...

Re: Pi keeps crashing after latest patches

Are you heavily overclocking your raspi? Overclocking seems to result in corrupted fs for many users for a long while and when one of my raspis did this frequently I backed down the MHz a bit and have never seen this issue since. If not then perhaps your SD card could be the culprit? This can happen...

Did any of you had any success in running JavaFX examples with the touch panel? http://jdk8.java.net/fxarmpreview/javafx-arm-developer-preview.html the inputs apparently screw the apps up ;( I've been using java with jogamp and OpenGLEN (Open GL enabler) with touch controls which works just fine. Re: Linux Magazines - Any Recommendations?

Linux Format is the best option Linux format did have some of the same writers that Amiga Format had (remember Nick Veitch?). That I didn't know... Perhaps because I stopped buying paperware around the time Amiga went bust due to over-excessive advertising. Amiga Format was a pretty descent mag fro...

Re: 10" Touch Screen for Raspi on route shortly!

I'm playing around with the touchscreen and the screen is... noisy! It makes an annoying whistle that changes with color distribution . Why? :?: That's odd?... Perhaps you have a broken power supply? Check your ground (gnd) connectors and make sure that your power supply is ok. It's the first time ...

Paula (MOS8364) tracker player idea

Recently I've been tinkering with a SID chip (MOS6581) and an atmega328 in order to be able to play chiptunes the way it was ment! I'm influenced by the sidaster shield but is building mine "free hand" with two 74HC595N shift registers and one 6N138 octocoupler for a midi interface. The thing works ...

Re: RPi not suitable as a media center

Can a Raspberry Pi be churned into a pvr or a media player? -Yes but with limitations. Is the Raspberry Pi designed to be a full blown media player? -No, never. Do some people expect too much from this "cheaper than a bottle of scotch" soc computer? -Yep, frequently! For you who only want to "build"...

Have a look at this thread: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=19394 If I remember correctly it describes how I got my screen to work with touch events in a better fashion. Also, xbmc is not designed to work with touch-screens swipe motions, it's designed to work with remotes and...

I can only agree with jamesh and others that MHz is not the magic solution. Back in the days when an Amiga 500 ran at 7.14 MHz (PAL version) that was - and still is - loads! Due to its clever architecture with co-processors it was all that was needed for stunning performance. At a certain point in t...

Re: Will android sdk work

You only need the Android toolchain, not Eclipse.
Eclipse is very power thirsty and is perhaps not the best option for the Pi...

I code java for Android, and others, in vi and just use the ant toolchain to build.
