Update: happy ending! I examined the contents of /etc/lvm/archive and vgcfgresotre the metadata right before pvmove began. The volume was still inactive but this time I was able to use lvconvert --uncache and then vgchange -ay to make the volume active. I was able to fsck and mount the /home volume ...

Hello, I guess I did not make myself clear in the original post. I am using lvm raid5 volume for /home, by using lvconvert --type raid5 to convert a linear volume into raid5.
