Re: Should i get one?

i was wondering if i should get a Raspberry Pi? Yes, but we are biased here. ;) Is it possible to bump up the processor a little? You can overclock it, but it will void the waranty. Depending on what you are doing, the processor is quite good enough. And what can it run games wise and video quality...

Re: Help On Installing Software!!!!

Now this is where the trouble usually starts, pre-requisites , packages that already have to be installed before the new package can be installed. So you will have to do the same with them before you can install the package *you* want to install. Just use apt to figure out the dependencies: apt-get...

Re: Using a USB Drive

Ok, I solved the issue (kind of). By installing the `cifs-utils` package, I can now mount my desktop's shared folder:

Code: Select all

sudo mount -t cifs //ipaddress/sharename /mnt
cd /mnt
# Now I can do whatever, and the files are stored on the desktop
Hopefully this helps somebody... ;)

Using a USB Drive

I have a USB drive I would like to use to transfer some files from my Pi to my desktop and back. When the drive is plugged into the Pi, it shows up without issue: ~$ ls /dev/ | grep "sd" sda sda1 I then mount the drive, again without issue: ~$ mkdir usb ~$ sudo mount /dev/sda1 ~/usb The drive then w...

Re: accessing files on system

NOTE: I know nothing about heyu, and can only address the linux thing. I am going to assume you are using Raspbian linux. That said, a `sudo vi /etc/heyu` should do it. `sudo` means run as the root user (ish, but it is close enough), `vi` is a text editor, `/etc/heyu` is the full path to the config ...

Re: Create new user - copy from pi?

First : You can simply change the username in the password and shadow files as such: ... vi /etc/passwd ... Do not use regular vi (or any other text editor) to edit the /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, /etc/group, and /etc/gshadow files. Use the builtin vipw and vigr (must be run as root; use the -s flag ...

MPlayer is also a strong option. It works from both the desktop and the command line (read: usable over ssh), and can play a both audio and video. It has a lot of options, however, so it is also confusing at first.

Re: Create new user - copy from pi?

You're probably looking for the `usermod` command. Run a `man usermod` for more details. In essence, an user in Debian is just an entry in 4 files: * /etc/passwd * /etc/shadow * /etc/group * /etc/gshadow The `usermod` command automatically edits these files to change the entries. To move the pi user...

In raspbian, I got it to work by simply apt-getting glhack, and then running it on my main screen over ssh -X. What are the load errors? Does an apt-get purge followed by and apt-get install work? Does a different front end work? Does vanilla nethack-console work?

The install went perfectly. I pulled down the openjdk package and the jamvm package, pulled the armhf tarball from Github (I am on Raspbian), and extracted all the files. I then launch the game with either ./blocky or ./blocky-jamvm, and the game loads. This is where the issue is. As soon as I spawn...

I pulled down Minetest today (sudo apt-get install minetest), and it seemed like a decent replacement for Minecraft. Visual Quickstart Guide to C or Visual Quickstart Guide to C++ are good books by Larry Ullman. I learned a lot from these, but I had also programmed for a bit before I read them, so I don't know how they will do if you know nothing about programming. Good luck!
