Re: Pi won't boot after update.

OK but do you have log via RS232 when you use old kernel.img and the PI boots? Maybe your RS232 interface does not ok....

Re: Pi won't boot after update.

I think that this is a similar problem to the http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 28&t=18896 and logs from RS232 can help to confirm this.
Please also remember that the your cmdline.txt should contain console=ttyAMA0,115200 kgdboc=ttyAMA0,115200.

Re: Pi won't boot after update.

Yes. This PI's RS232 works with 3,3V and the USB converter from your link will be ok. You can use putty as terminal :)

Re: Pi won't boot after update.

cutdown kernel is broken, my Pi also does not boot with its.

If you have TTL<->RS232 converter you can connect PI and check if it sends some logs by RS232.

Re: Pi won't boot after update.

Maybe you use cutdown kernel. Please provide your kernel command line (content of \boot\cmdline.txt file).

Re: USB packet loss.

Thanks for clearing that up. Another thing I was wondering. Is it possible to force an usb device to enumerate at usb 1.1 instead of usb 2.0 (I have trouble with the high speed and full speed terms (which is which..))I was thinking about ftdi and prolific adapters. They don't need the usb 2.0 speed...

Re: USB/serial converters very broken on Pi

As you can see You can get RPi to works stable with USB<->RS232 converters :P With speed = 1. I think when you use full-speed hub (USB 1.1) for USB<->RS232 system will be stable without forcing full-speed for all USB devices.

If you can get USB hub 1.1 you can check this theory ;)

Re: USB/serial converters very broken on Pi

Try last kernel and use this kernel command line (/boot/cmdline.txt):

Code: Select all

dwc_otg.microframe_schedule=1 smsc95xx.turbo_mode=N dwc_otg.fiq_fix_enable=1 sdhci-bcm2708.sync_after_dma=0 dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=tty1 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootfstype=ext4 rootwait dwc_otg.speed=1

Re: 8000 interrupts per second when idle!

You can try to add line

Code: Select all

vm.min_free_kbytes = 16384
at the and of file /etc/sysctl.conf

And add parameter smsc95xx.turbo_mode=N to the cmdline.txt

Re: 8000 interrupts per second when idle!

cmdline.txt should contain at least:

dwc_otg.fiq_fix_enable=1 sdhci-bcm2708.sync_after_dma=0 dwc_otg.lpm_enable=0 console=tty1 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootfstype=ext4 rootwait
