Re: out of memory with 2G free

I have made the update, same problem. But I found that it is caused by memory allocation pressure. The message about mmc_rescan is itself only a watchdog-style message, caused by the fact that the system is frozen because of heavy swapping. I think it's unrelated to mmc. Indeed, the system is unresp...

Re: out of memory with 2G free

I read several times that rpi-update was for developers only as it installs the latest and consequently unstable version of the firmware. I would like to not destroy my system. I have raspbian current kernel 4.19.75-v8+.

Re: out of memory with 2G free

I stumbled upon this thread about 64 bit kernel lately, and after activating arm_64bit I don't have allocation problems any more. The GUI is smooth even when the CPU is loaded, process can use all memory if needed. This means that there is a real problem with the 32 bit kernel of raspbian, either it...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 can't play video

From what I've seen, the raspberry pi 4 is not able to play accelerated video unless you have the experimental and unstable driver. So you have to choose between playing 720p or higher video, or have stability. Personally, with the experimental driver, I can playback some 720p video nicely, unless I...

Re: out of memory with 2G free

I don't know how it happened, but at the last boot, I had a different kernel command line, and now the memory allocation seems to work as expected, my processes can fill the memory. Apparently, the way of specifying the video mode changed, I don't know how it's related to this fact and if it will re...

Re: out of memory with 2G free

Thank you for your responses. I don't want to disable the OOM killer or change the OOM score of my process because it's rightfully being killed: it's the one that takes the largest amount of memory. What I don't understand is why this happens with sometimes 3G available instead of when there's no mo...

Re: out of memory with 2G free

Here's the result of the free command, right before the OOM killer is called: $ free -htlw total used free shared buffers cache available Mem: 3.8Gi 1.2Gi 299Mi 95Mi 2.0Mi 2.3Gi 2.3Gi Low: 718Mi 492Mi 225Mi High: 3.1Gi 3.0Gi 74Mi Swap: 0B 0B 0B Total: 3.8Gi 1.2Gi 299Mi With 2.3G available and some f...

out of memory with 2G free

I fail to understand why I have an out of memory triggered on my Raspberry Pi 4 with 4GB of memory, while 2G appear as available in the free command. I'm running a process that indeed should get out of memory after a few days (a mediawiki XML import launched with the php CLI), but instead of being k...

Re: Redshift on pi 4?

I can confirm it's also not implemented with the free driver, see this opened and not a priority issue.

Re: Redshift on pi 4?

Hello, it does not seem to work with the experimental driver as well, can anybody confirm redshift is working on pi 4 and in which condition? For me it does nothing with either drivers. Thanks
