I can now capture snaps using uvccapture: pi@raspberrypi:~$ time sudo uvccapture -S80 -C80 -G80 -x1600 -y1200 -v -m ... Btw, try the modified uvccapture from http://dp.nonoo.hu/modified-uvccapture/ - it's much nicer, the default values for gain etc seems sane instead of "do it yourself"..
