Re: Pi4 64-bit raspbian kernel for testing - Focus on Pi4

Good evening. I have now installed 64bit kernel and validated it is loaded using uname, aarch64. I would like to take advantage of using a 64bit version of adoptopenjdk open j9 64bit. Can this only be built locally with my 64bit kernel. Which leads me onto another question. When using apt install h...

If I use arm_64bit=1 it does not select the 64 bit kernel even though its loaded on the Pi Has something changed? It works for me. [all] #dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d gpu_mem=16 arm_64bit=1 And ~ $ uname -a Linux pi-4-devel 4.19.93-v8+ #1290 SMP PREEMPT Fri Jan 10 16:51:04 GMT 2020 aarch64 GNU/Linux

Re: Architechture of a Beowulf cluster.

Have you made any progress with your cluster? I've had good luck using slurm to launch programs on the computational nodes of the super-cheap cluster. As slurm is used on many bigger clusters, using slurm on the Raspberry Pi has the advantage of smoothing out the learning curve for anyone intereste...

Re: Architechture of a Beowulf cluster.

So hopefully i'll have 4 nodes up and running before Friday. Did the new Pi computers arrive? With four nodes it might be expedient to consider a network-mounted root filesystem that can be centrally updated or alternatively some way of doing automated system maintenance simultaneously on multiple ...

Does anybody know how I can install Java 13.0.1 on a RaspberryPi 4? Because I use Java 13.0.1 on my WindowsEngine and so I wrote and exported my JavaApplication with Java 13.0.1 but the RaspberryPi only supports a lincenced Version of Java 11.0.5 which is not available for free :/ If there is no wa...

Hi,

which max. memory size is correct? 3.86G (raspbian lite 32 bit) or 3.77G (raspbian lite 64 bit)?

memory_32_vs_64.jpg
Surely they both are. Anything 64bits tends to use a little more memory
But max memor should be same for 32 and 64. ;)

Re: git and merging branches

Just setup https://gitea.io/ on you Pi. I'm hosting over ~700 repositories on my Pi 4. A lot of them are mirrors from GitHub. And I'm using this Git-Repo for my projects too.

But first you have to learn how to work with git: https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2

I'm developing in Java 8/11 in my Windows 10 system. Than I put the compiled code on my Pi's. Sometimes the code will be compiled on the Pi's. It works. But I'm using only Raspbian Lite (without any desktop). Sometimes I'm compiling tools in Golang on the Pi. For you goal you can take look on NodeJS...

Can you tell how far you are with the 64bit?
If you want to play with a proof-of-concept, then the thread at https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 6&t=254027 is well worth a look.
I can switch one of my Pi 4 for testing.

Re: RPI4: Why is everything still 32-bit?

AFAIK a 64-bit OS still runs 32-bit applications, so it shouldn't break backwards compatibility. Wrong sort of backwards compatibility. We need the OS to work on ALL version of the Pi, including the ones with 32bit cores. A 64 bit kernel will not run on a 32 bit core. 64 bit is coming. Meanwhile, 3...

Re: RPI4: Why is everything still 32-bit?

All of computing is a Work In Progress (WIP). Hardware, software, protocols, standards, everything. All the time. Nothing we use does not get regularly updated. At a frightening rate often. The Pi still being 32 bits and being based on the conservatively updated Debian is a little island of stabili...

Re: RPI4: Why is everything still 32-bit?

Just remember: The Pi is not conceived to play in the formula one ligue. It is designed to be an education and tinkering low cost SOC based computer. Raspbian has a policy of backward compatibility, that I hope will not be broken for a long time. If someone uses it for power-hungry apps, it's their...

Why not automatically? It may be a problem with how systemd runs the init services. Someone else may understand things enough to fix them properly, but not me. I would place something like ( sleep 5 echo Mounting everything in fstab... mount -a echo ...done ) & in /etc/rc.local and then focus on mo...
