Re: How to compile multiple python programs into a program

This is a good question, something I was pondering over myself. Thanks rushabh92 your weblink explains the matter very well. I can see this Python language is really quite good, modules are the way to go. I was writing my Python code in mini-programs or modules with the view of linking them together...

Re: Puzzled by two simple hex-dec-string mixup

Thanks for your clarification Paeryn and the code snippet. It's one of those small things that needs careful study to be sure how it works. After reading your message 20 times and tried a few Shell entry codes with respect to the Latin-1 table, I see now how it works, thanks. I think your wording is...

Re: Puzzled by two simple hex-dec-string mixup

Thanks yes your suggestions help. I see now the difference between 0x and \x when referring to hex numbers. I've seen references in many documents to where a hex number is preceded by \x and probably why many people like myself are getting confused. I ran the code you suggested, make a "list&qu...

Re: Puzzled by two simple hex-dec-string mixup

After reading various forums and py docs, I am becoming to think perhaps I don't know/understand exactly what a binary file is in Python. I thought it would be just a whole list of numbers from which I could pick out using an index pointer but perhaps it's not a simple as that. BTW: my source data f...

[solved] Puzzled by two simple hex-dec-string mixup

I'm puzzled by two simple hex-dec-string mixups. (Python 3.7.3) I discover (using Thonny) for it to accept a hex number in my .py code I need to use 0x and not \x, but then when the results are shown in the Shell, it shows the same number but with the \x prefix. So I try this in the Shell >>> int(&q...

Re: I want a hex editor like HxD on Windows - where is it?

Result! I feel to be a bit of a fool but all sorted like magic! I went to look in Add/Remove Software, entered ghex into the search box and an option came up showing a taped up cardboard box icon (archive of some sort I assume) I checked the box and went through the process and low and behold it ins...

Re: raspbian hex editor

As a noob, perhaps if I explain how I got it to work for me. sudo apt-get install hexedit - my error was to have a blank between apt and -get: apt-get is correct, apt -get gives an error. That should download the app (or whatever people call programs in linux) Then open Terminal and type: hexedit Th...

Re: basic post install - where is it?

Very frustrating (and time consuming!) I tried a few more things with dhex such as trying to do the key set up but that seemed to lock out. Does anyone run dhex on their Pi? As in, does it even work on a Pi? I then looked at ghex, more confusion, where do I get the install? I found something via wik...

I want a hex editor like HxD on Windows - where is it?

A real noob simple basic question, sorry about that. I want a hex editor like HxD on Windows, I've done a search and come up with dhex. So I did the sudo apt -get dhex thing, all seemed to go well, but now what!? Where is it? I looked in /usr/bin yes dhex is there but now what? In Windows the...

Re: guizero - question, in more ways than one

Thanks for the info, I first ran what looked easy and got this:- >>> import guizero guizero.__version__ Traceback (most recent call last): File "<pyshell>", line 2, in <module> AttributeError: module 'guizero' has no attribute '__version__' I used the Shell window of Thonny, maybe that's t...

guizero - question, in more ways than one

I'm not sure where to ask this. I'm exploring guizero using the Thonny app as supplied in the latest R-Pi B+/noobs package (python 3.7.3). I'm trying out the popup dialogue boxes from the example code. I can get the info, warning and yesno popups working fine but the "question" dialogue po...
