Re: Pi 4 overscan fix has big performance hit

The latest update to the Kernal fixed my overscan problem! THANK YOU. I feel a bit silly because I just posted about the performance hit with the video driver disabled as a fix. It now works well, I got a third place finish in a trial run of Tux Racer. And the overscan settings work as well. Because...

Re: quest for a nice compact keyboard ?

I have the Canakit oval mini keyboard and pad, not the rectangular one they have. It is great, very ergonomic and comfortable with rubber coating that is tough, had it a year, and you can thumb type with it easily. It has direction pads that work with a lot of apps. I love it, it is always on my cof...

Re: Pi 4 overscan fix has big performance hit

What do you mean you had to "force" 1080 mode? A TV should have an EDID which the Pi gets the proper resolution from. It should just plug in and work if you're using HDMI. Could it be caused by whatever you did to force 1080p? What I mean is my TV did not work as expected or as it did with the Pi 3...

Re: Pi 4 overscan fix has big performance hit

I just did an update and upgrade while using the proper driver in case disabling it would not update files, but I still have overscan, the overscan settings only change the boot screen with the four Raspberries, the desktop does not change. I do have an old TV and had to force 1080 mode at first but...

Pi 4 overscan fix has big performance hit

I have the overscan problem that I ‘fixed’ by commenting out the dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d line in config.txt. It worked but I wondered about a performance hit and I asked about it, but I got no answer. I recently got the fan for my Canakit case, which I did not know it supported until I got it, and no...

Re: WiFi Range in open air

I use a high gain wifi adapter and can get a usable signal and data rate avg 200kbps, from a wifi hotspot four floors below me. I get about 40 hotspots around me, in the city, with the wifi adapter. The Pi 4 built in wifi can only find about 8 hotspots and cant even detect the one I connect to. I ha...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

Another thing I noticed about overscan, using the new driver, when I start Tux Racer, the Desktop goes to even higher overscan before TR loads and with the new driver there is more overscan in Tux Racer than using the old driver.

Re: WiFi Adapter wn722n Problems with Raspberry 4b

I have the same old version of the TP Link 722N wifi adapter and I can connect to the wifi I use, but I get dropped and repeated letters with my keyboard and the mouse is laggy. I think there is some problem with that adapter, and I checked with TP Link and they have no firmware update for it. I do ...

Are you completely up to date, because I thought the underscan issue when running FKMS (the faster graphics driver) had been sorted out?

Yes, I did an update before I did any of the changes to config.txt.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Thread - general discussion

I did some more playing around with config.txt and found that the overscan setting DO work, but only on the bootup screen with the four Raspberries. They move when I change the settings, but the Desktop is the same. I also tried using the new driver and found that there is a very substantial differe...

Re: Pi 4 and USB Wifi adapter

I just checked the Pi Repo for the Atheros AR9271 and the firmware for the Atheros chips are already installed. There were some other packages for this chip but they were not what I could use. The TP-Link 722N is a high gain USB powered dongle almost the size of a Pi Zero and I have replaced the sto...

Thanks! A wired kb is a good thing to have for troubleshooting. I am building a PC, just for gaming of coarse, and thought I might need one for setup.

I have the overscan problem that i 'fixed' by commenting out the new driver and forcing 1080 mode. Does that compromise performance? Should I be looking for a better monitor? I am looking for info on compatable wifi adapters for the Pi 4 as well. I can tell you I have problems with my keyboards, wired and wl, with an old TP Link 722 that works fine with the pi 3. I dont have any problems with the built in wifi. Look for something that is Linux compatable or full plug and...

An update on my overscan problem. In config.txt, commenting out dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d and uncommenting the settings to force mode and changing to 1 and 16 for 1080 worked on my older TV that supports CEA and DMT modes. Buster uses the Stretch GUI settings and I presume the driver. I wonder what the...

Re: Using OpenVPN to transfer files between Pi 3 and Pi 4

I want to be able to read files on the HD on the Pi 3 with my Pi 4. With the Internet if necessary for some sort of server, or with a USB or Ethernet cable without the Internet. A Peer to Peer network I think it is called. If necessary I could use the Pi 3 as a server but obviously I dont know much ...
