Re: Smtube for quick efficient Youtube browsing

Dear all, Don’t suppose anyone knows where to get a modern build of this for the Pi3 B? I have tried compiling from source, but I can’t seem to get QT5 working with it. I just get build errors about scripts Project ERROR: Unknown module(s) in QT: script I’ve installed sudo apt-get install libqt5scri...

Re: STICKY: USB boot now working on Pi3

Doesn’t work for me. Had a Pi 3 running Stretch as a desktop PC from a large USB Pendrive Sandisk, without MicroSD on the 3B+ (straight swap out) this seems to do nothing... Maybe a setting? will try fiddling with config.txt on the microSD. The program_usb_boot_mode=1 didn’t seem to do much. Anyone ...

Re: How to wire a Raspberry Pi to a Sainsmart 5v Relay Board

I know this is an old thread, but I'm looking for some clarity as I keep reading conflicting things. I'm trying to power a Sainsmart Optoisolated Relay (there's 2 of them on the board). I'm using the normally closed function. I just want to be able to apply a signal to one of the pins to tur...

Quick question, if using VLC to convert MKV files to MP4, will the Hardware Acceleration make any difference, or is this only for playback?

Re: Is PI USB Boot Killing my Pendrive?

Haha, Funny you posted that! That's exactly what I did the night before last. Found a guide on the smplayer forums, but was a little unclear, works brilliantly. One or two videos don't work(older ones I think, with split audio / video!) do a search for 'yummy yummy yummy love in my tummy' and you'll...

Re: Is PI USB Boot Killing my Pendrive?

I did further testing, lots of it, and yup definitely the 'Experimental OpenGL Driver'. I turned this off and solid as a rock again. Just thought I wouldn't be able to run Youtube videos (a major requirement for my 3 year old!) However I have now discovered I can use SMTube to get the video link, pa...

Is PI USB Boot Killing my Pendrive?

Dear All, Can anyone out there shed any light on this please. I'm trying to use a Pi as a minimal desktop, and also as a learning setup for my little girl on the kitchen table. I can generally get things working with a Raspbian install and was delighted to hear about the new boot from USB option. I ...

Re: Megadrive emulator: Picodrive v1.91 with OpenGLES

I BIG ask on an old thread, but any chance you could get this to work with the 'experimental' opengl drivers for Pi3b. When I try running it with those enabled I just get errors about 'already in use'. I was going to try and recompile with sdl2, but aren't smart enough to get it to work. Suggestions?

GPIOZero and TKinter.

So I've written a nice bit of software that works under Python3, using the the gpizero library as it handles nice things like 'is_pressed'. I have also made a lovely GUI for the program in TKInter. However when I try marrying the 2 together the code will not work as TK detects the 'Button' command f...

I would highly recommend SMTube and SMPlayee as a standalone application! Less buggy than in browser and supports HD full screen. Works on my Pi3 enough to keep the little one happy!

Re: Can Raspberry Pi 3 play live tv?

I use a Win TV USB stick through a powered hub to record and playback live TV 720p. Works a charm even across the the network and different ok installs of Kodi running on RPi2/3s. I found Kodi with TVheadend very useable.

Re: Viewing Sharepoint on Pi 3

Have you considered Citrix? This would allow the Pi to just work as a Thin Client to your more powerful servers.

I know Citrix works a treat on both RPI2 and RPi3 in both Raspbian and Ubuntu MATE.

Kind regards

Mark.

Have you considered using Monit, does exactly what you want, well certainly when the daemon crashes. There's a few good guides on using Monit here - http://www.htpcguides.com/use-monit-monitor-linux-home-media-server/ And here - http://www.htpcbeginner.com/monit-server-hard-drive-storage-monitoring/...

Re: Howto: setting up Pi 2 Ubuntu MATE with Raspbian softwar

I found a good alternative to watching Youtube in FF was SMPlayer, this also comes with SM Tube. This allows you to run a custom search window that sends the video to SMPlayer. You can configure it to use custom building of mplayer which takes advantage of the graphics processing power of the Pi. It...

Re: Best rss reader for pi 2?

Are you just looking for a Reader (or host your own)? I have successfully used for many months TTRSS (TinyTinyRSS) running (and viewing) on a Pi. Plus you are then in charge of your own subscriptions and management. It easily handles the 100 odd feeds that I follow. Find the guide for creating a TTR...

You can use Multi-Tabbed putty. This allows you to connect to multiple Pi's, and then run a script / command on all of them at once. I use this in the classroom with a set of 30!

The answer is just about. There is another active thread on here about YouTube in the browser, KWeb or Chromium with the RPi-YouTube plugin. It is possible, but not quite Easy. I've dumped my desktop and server in favour of Pi's. Not looking back (yet). Kodi (OpenElec) on the Pi2 has no trouble via ...

The good thing is, a reflash of a clean install a swift boot and off I went again. Took less than an hour to reinstall the majority of apps and files.
